    • A flow of packets sent from a server device over a TCP network to at least one endpoint device is identified, the endpoint device accessing the TCP network over a wireless access network. A message is identified from the endpoint device to the server device communicating an error condition relating to at least one packet in the flow. At least one processing device is used to predict that the error condition is based, at least in part, on a non-congestion-related condition within the wireless access network. The message is filtered to exclude communication of the error condition to the server based on the prediction that the error condition is based, at least in part, on a non-congestion-related condition within the wireless access network. In some aspects, the message can include a TCP duplicate acknowledgement (“DUP ACK”) message.

    • A method for providing a virtual private network by home agent in a mobile IP environment includes providing a home agent operable to receive a registration request from a foreign agent and negotiate conditions of attachment of a mobile node to the foreign agent and further operable to store an IP address of the foreign agent in response to the negotiated conditions. The method also includes receiving, at the home agent, from the foreign agent, a registration request for the mobile node. The method also includes determining, by the home agent, a virtual private network membership of the mobile node based on a characteristic associated with the mobile node. The method further includes mapping the mobile node to an identifier associated with the home agent and transmitting the mapping to the foreign agent. The identifier is indicative of the virtual private network membership of the mobile subscriber. The method also includes receiving packets containing the identifier from the foreign agent and, in response, directing the packets to an IP address associated with the virtual private network.

    • A client device that is receiving streaming content on a connection from a streaming server over a network determines a need to suppress transmission of one or more packets from the streaming server on the connection over the network. The client device sends to the streaming server a message configured to cause the streaming server not to transmit the one or more packets to the client device for the connection without terminating the connection. The client device sends a further message that is configured to cause the streaming server to empty a buffer of packets that are queued for transmission but have not yet been transmitted (at a first bit rate) to the client device, so that the client device can send a request to the streaming server for transmissions of packets on the connection at a second bit rate.

    • In one embodiment, a method of providing mobile internet comprises receiving a down-link packet having a endpoint identity protocol element (EIP), the EIP comprising a global locator associated with a provider network, a first local locator set to a predetermined value, and an endpoint identifier associated with a mobile host; querying the provider network to obtain a second local locator value associated with the mobile host, the second local locator indicates the location of a first radio router with which the mobile host had previously exchange authentication; overwriting the first local locator portion of the EIP with the second local locator; and routing the down-link packet towards the mobile host using the second local locator.

    • A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving a request to authenticate an end user in a service provider network, and evaluating the request to identify the end user as belonging to an enterprise network. A tag is generated for a packet associated with a flow for the end user in the enterprise network. Routing occurs for subsequent packets associated with the flow between the enterprise network and the end user. The subsequent packets associated with the flow are not routed through the service provider network. In more particular embodiments, the end user is authenticated in the enterprise network after being authenticated in the service provider network. In addition, traffic for the end user can be separated based on one or more tags identified within the flow. A plurality of flows can be classified based on a customer identification (CID). The tag can be a virtual local area network (VLAN) tag generated at a base station.
