    • A service provider has prepared in advance a process definition which includes only a minimum amount of service required. Then, under this condition alone, a user is requested to add a necessary service to the process definition. This permits the user to utilize a customized process. A service providing server prepares the process definition and an addable service addable thereto, thereby allowing presentation of the definition and the service to the user. In accordance with an instruction by the user, a user client makes assistances such as making a judgment on addition possibility or impossibility of the service to the process definition. The service providing server makes a judgment on execution possibility or impossibility of the service requested by the user, then dynamically adding the service to the process definition and executing the service.

    • In a multilayered system having a hierarchical structure and comprising a plurality of programs, optimal operation parameters for each program are computed. A parameter setting unit 104 sets a parameter 111 for an operation of each program 112. A program start/stop unit 105 starts and stops operation of each program 112. A performance information measurement unit 106 measures performance information of the multilayered system 110.     • A conference system is formed by multiple workstations which have individual conference control programs and are connected to a network, with each workstation having a destination workstation determined in advance so that a ring-shaped logical communication path is formed on the network. A conference control program which detects a fault on its receiving path during a conference sends a fault recovery request message including an identifier of the conference control program itself and the address of the workstation to the neighboring workstation, and the conference control program of the neighboring workstation relays the received fault recovery request message to the next workstation on the ring-shaped logical communication path so that the fault recovery request message is propagated on the ring-shaped logical communication path. The conference control program of a workstation which is located immediately upstream of the fault and is therefore unable to send the received fault recovery request message to the neighboring workstation carries out a procedure of establishing a new communication path to the conference control program of the workstation which issued the fault recovery request message.
