    • A stator winding includes at least two pairs of in-slot portions aligned in a depth direction of each of slots and first and second coil-ends that respectively extend from opposite axial ends of the slots. The first coil-end a includes a plurality of crossover wires, each of which connects one of the in-slot portions disposed in one layer of the one of the slots and another of the in-slot portions disposed in another layer of second one of the slots that is spaced apart from the first one of the slots by a narrower pitch than a pole-pitch between the N and S poles. The second coil-end includes a plurality of crossover wires, each of which connects one of the in-slot portions disposed in one layer of third one of the slots and another of the in-slot portions disposed in another layer of fourth one of the slots that is spaced apart from the third one of the slots by the pole-pitch between the N and S poles. Therefore, the height of the first coil-end can be reduced, so that the rigidity of the coil-end can be increased, thereby increasing vibration resistance.

    • A stator winding of an alternator has two poly-phase windings. Each of phase coils, e.g., X-phase coil in one of poly-phase windings, is provided by a continuous wire. The phase coil is accommodated in corresponding slots in a layered manner along a radial direction, therefore, the phase coil forms layers in the slots and may be identified as location of layers in the slots. The phase coil has a plurality of crossing portion that links the layers in different slots distanced by a magnetic pole pitch, and two output portions extending beyond the stator winding. In the phase coil, only one crossing portion is formed to link the same layers in different slots, and the other crossing portions are formed to link different layers in different slots.

    • A stator of an alternator for use in an automobile vehicle is composed of a cylindrical stator core and a stator coil disposed in slots of the stator core. The stator coil is formed by connecting plural U-shaped conductor segments, each segment including a pair of conductor portions and a turning portion connecting the pair of conductor portions. The conductor portions are inserted into the stator slots, and turning portions form a coil end extending to an axial side of the stator core. Only the turning portion of the conductor segment has a round cross-section, while other portions have a flat rectangular cross-section. Alternatively, the stator coil may be formed from a continuous conductor wire which has a round cross-section only at turning portions and a flat rectangular cross-section at other portions. The stator coil is easily curved at the turning portions having a round cross-section without damaging an insulator covering the coil, and the conductor portions having a flat rectangular cross-section improve a space factor in the stator slots, thereby increasing the alternator output.

    • A stator core of an AC generator for vehicles is laminated by helically winding a band-like steel plate and is formed to be approximately cylindrical. A yoke of the stator core is held between a pair of frames. An axial extending groove-like recess is provided in the outer peripheral portion of the stator core, and a through-bolt is arranged within the recess. It is possible to provide an AC generator for vehicles at low cost in which an axial center position of the through-bolt is controlled to thereby considerably reduce a moment component when the through-bolt is axially fastened to prevent an occurrence of looseness of the through-bolt and which prevents output from lowering, is small in size, is excellent in the resistance to vibration, and is low in noise.
