    • Even in an optical disk which includes, within a single disk, plural record areas whose track-pitches differ from each other, a tracking parameter is adjusted in a short time and with a high accuracy. At first, an optical pickup for reading information recorded in the optical disk is displaced into a reference track-pitch area which is one of the plural record areas of the optical disk. Moreover, the tracking gain is adjusted so that the tracking servo gain in this area may exhibit a predetermined characteristic. Also, the value thus acquired is recorded into, e.g., a non-volatile memory. After that, based on the tracking parameter learned/adjusted in the reference track-pitch area, the tracking parameter in another track-pitch area is calculated using the track-pitch ratio therebetween. Thereby it becomes possible to adjust the tracking parameter in a short time and with a high accuracy.

    • A focus jump technique enables focus control on recording layers of a disc in such a manner that its effect is not absorbed by disturbance or a variation in the movement speed of an objective lens. The technique involves monitoring level of a focus error signal and rejecting noise from the error signal. A speed sensor detects movement speed of an objective lens; and a speed control circuit generates a voltage for controlling the objective lens, based on the detected movement speed. Movement speed of the objective lens is detected during focus jump, a corresponding lens drive signal is generated, and an end position is determined from behavior of the error signal immediately before the end of the jump. A focus control is pulled, from a focus point corresponding to one recording layer, into a focus point corresponding to another recording layer forcibly in a stable manner.

    • A laser-clad processing apparatus of the present invention is one which is for carrying out laser-clad processing onto a valve-seat portion of a cylinder head, and is characterized in that it comprises cylinder-head holding means (1) for holding a cylinder head (H) in an inclining manner so that the central axial line of a valve seat becomes the vertical direction, a laser-processing head (2) for irradiating a laser beam onto a process part of the valve seat and at the same time discharging a powdery material to this process part, rotary means (3) which rotates around the central axial line of the valve seat in such a state that the laser-processing head is inclined with respect to the vertical direction, and powdery-material supply means (4) for supplying the powdery material to the laser-processing head. Moreover, a laser-clad processing method of the present invention is characterized in that it fixes the cylinder head (H), and forms a clad layer while rotating the laser-processing head (2), which emits the laser beam with respect to the valve-seat portion of the cylinder head and discharges the powdery material, around the axial center line of the valve seat.
