    • An engine comprises a pair of members, such as a pair of adjacent cylinder heads, having a common passageway formed therein to communicate a coolant therethrough. An annular seal assembly is disposed between the members to provide a static seal preventing the egress of coolant thereby. The seal assembly comprises an annular ferrule having an annular elastomeric seal disposed circumferentially thereabout. A V-shaped groove is formed circumferentially on the periphery of the seal to seat a like-shaped portion of the ferrule therein. A strap-type clamp circumferentially surrounds the seal to apply a clamping force thereon to wedge the ferrule into the V-shaped groove of the seal to expand sidewalls of the seal into sealing contact with the members.

    • An ergonomically designed pipette tip that can be securely mounted to a barrel of a pipetter yet is designed to substantially reduce the axial force necessary to install and eject the pipette tip from the pipetter. An improved pipette tip that includes the addition of a second elastomeric material and cooperative means for insuring uniform interference and depth of penetration of the pipetter barrel as successive barrels are inserted and ejected. Also disclosed is an improved multiple-tip configuration with similar features as the ergonomic pipette tip that can be mounted to multiple barrels of a multi-pipetter as one tip instead of 8 or 12 individual tips. The secondary elastomeric material allows for better sealing and eliminates alignment issues, high installation and ejection requirements while reducing the hand and thumb forces that due to repeated use will sometimes result in repetitive stress injury.

    • A wiping cap closure device used for removing the non-calibrated residue fluid attached to the outside surface of a pipette tip during the fluid transfer from a container. The wiping cap is constructed using a conical shaped resilient wiper section extending to a conical tip. The conical shaped wiper section is configured to include at least one helical formed slot extending from said conical tip forming at least one wiping finger. The wiping finger is resiliently held against the outside surface of the pipette tip inserted therethrough during the fluid transfer. The wiping finger provides squeegee like means to remove all of the non-calibrated residue fluid inadvertently attached to the outside surface of the tip as the pipette tip is withdrawn from the container leaving the non-calibrated residue fluid within the container for further evaluations or tests.

    • An apparatus and method of manufacture for a pipette tip having a membrane filter includes a pipette tip having an interior annulus for receiving an exterior perimeter of the membrane filter. A shear plate overlying the pipette tip defines an aperture having a dimension equal to the exterior perimeter of the membrane filter. A cylindrical punch has a path of motion for passing through the aperture in the shear plate to the interior annulus of the pipette tip. Membrane filter material is placed over the shear plate in the path of motion of the cylindrical punch. By the expedient of moving the cylindrical punch through the membrane filter material, the aperture in the shear plate, to the interior annulus of the pipette tip to place sheared filter material over the annulus of the pipette tip. Specific embodiments of pipette tips are illustrated including tips having a first filter for filtering material drawn into the pipette tip and second filters from preventing contamination of the pipette.
