    • A guide rail for supporting the guide rollers of tenter clamps, in a tentering machine such as a film stretching machine, includes a plurality of spring steel bands clamped to a support member of the tentering machine by a clamping block and clamping bolt. To ensure that the guide rollers remain constantly in contact with the guide rail, the guide rail is elastically yieldable in the thickness direction to compensate for any tolerances or deviations in the arrangement or running operation of the guide rollers. At least one of the spring steel bands of the guide rail is spring-elastically deflectable in a thickness direction perpendicular to the lengthwise extension of the guide rail. In one embodiment, at least one of the spring steel bands is pre-curved to provide the necessary elastic spring characteristic. In another embodiment, a spacer member is arranged between initially flat spring steel bands to leave elastically deflectable free edge portions of the steel bands protruding beyond the spacer member and the clamping members. The guide rollers are mounted on the guide rail so as to partially pre-stress the elastically deflectable steel bands in the thickness direction.

In order to protect the fabric against excessive squeezing, an upper roller head is entirely avoided by confining the circular spreader in the horizontal direction exclusively by the mangling stations. The vertical support of the spreader is provided fully by the mangling stations if the mangling rollers are mounted in positions slanting to the vertical. If the mangling rollers are not mounted in slanted positions it is preferred that a lower roller head operated by a lifting mechanism assists the mangling rollers in supporting the spreader (8) vertically. In both instances an upper roller head becomes unnecessary.

    • A method and apparatus remove a faulty weft thread from a beat-up edge or cloth fell by pulling its leading end with a pneumatic thread removal device, which adaptably takes into account the thread characteristics and particularly the twist of the thread. The method maintains the twist of the thread by generating a simultaneously sucking and rotating airflow in the thread removal device, wherein the direction of rotation of the flow is controlled to coincide with the direction of the twist of the weft thread. The pneumatic thread removal device includes an injector nozzle with at least two gas flow inlet ports oriented to respectively cause oppositely rotating suction flows through the nozzle, and a controllable throttle valve to selectively direct a gas flow to the inlet ports.

    • A weft clamp (8) of a gripper head in a shuttleless loom is operated by a finger (10) driven by a coupling rod (13) which in turn is activated by a cam drive (18; 30, 31). The finger is mounted to the upper end of the coupling rod which is guided by a rocker arm (24) that follows the reed or sley motion. The lower end of the coupling rod is directly coupled through a cam follower roller (17) to the cam drive (18; 30, 31), either by one or more springs that assure a continuous engagement of the cam follower roller with the cam or by a bellcrank lever that engages a double cam with two rollers, one at each end of the two bellcrank arms. In both instances only one pivot or journal is needed in the transmission link for the actuating force for operating the clamp operating finger (10) in synchronism with the sley oscillating movement and in synchronism with the gripper movement.
