    • Systems, methods and computer readable media for centrally managed impersonation are described. Examples include a system having a central server and a remote shell daemon running on a remote machine, wherein a trust relationship is established between the central server and the remote shell daemon. Examples also include a method wherein a user sends the management system a request to act upon a remote machine. The management system determines whether the user is authenticated for the requested action. Upon authentication, the management system identifies an impersonation policy based on user profile and the remote machine. The management system connects to the remote machine, impersonates an elevated privilege account if required, and executes the user action on the remote machine.

    • Method and apparatus that enable secure transmission of data in a scalable private network are described. Each station that is to be part of a private network registers with a key table. A group security association associated with the private network is forwarded to each trusted ingress and egress point that communicates with each member of the private network. When a member of the private network seeks to communicate with another member, it simply forwards the communication to the trusted ingress point. The trusted ingress point uses the security association associated with the private network to transform the communication and forwards the transformed communication through other intermediate stations in the network until it reaches a trusted egress point. The trusted egress point uses the stored security association to decode the transformed communication and forwards the communication to the appropriate destination. The ingress and egress points may be any points in the network, including customer edge devices, provider edge devices, or some combination thereof.

    • A control circuit for momentarily energizing an electromagnetic coil in a teleprinting device recorder has a pair of switching transistors respectively operated by control pulses having a lag between respective switching times and a control transistor biased by a single operating voltage source. When a first of the switching transistors is switched on a rapid current rise in the coil takes place for immediate and rapid activation of the coil plunger which is followed by a maintenance time during which the first switching transistor is either switched off or is in pulsed operation and also during which the energy stored in the electromagnetic coil serves as the maintenance current source, which is followed by switching on of the second control transistor. By the addition of a diode between the coil and the operating voltage source, a feedback circuit is formed so that after disconnection of the electromagnetic coil, the energy stored in the coil is fed back into the operating currents supply network.

    • Printed characters are transmitted by storing data words in a transmitter representing character sequences for operating a printing head in accordance with a first mode, producing in the transmitter code words different from data words representing the character sequences and transmitting messages including the code words to a receiver which has a printing head which can operate selectively in accordance with the first mode or a second mode. A printing head provided with at least one printing element at the receiving station is supplied with binary character sequences which trigger printing commands. A character generator is provided which stores the binary character sequences of predetermined characters and, following the reception of data words assigned to the characters, emits the appropriate binary character sequences. In the transmission of characters whose binary character sequences are stored in a character generator in the transmitting station and which at least partially differ from those characters whose binary character sequences are stored in the character generator of the receiving station, the binary character sequences are read from the character generator in the transmitting station and are converted into code words which are transmitted in place of the data words to the receiving station. In the receiving station the received code words are reconverted into binary character sequences which are fed to the printing head by-passing the character generator in the receiving station.

    • A paging system, or the like, having a transmitting station and a plurality of pocket sized subscriber units is disclosed. The transmitting station has a keyboard for encoding alphanumeric characters of a message and a subscriber code, a storage means for a predetermined number of characters of a message, means for converting a binary character code, such as ASCII, to a binary code representative of the character to be displayed in matrix form, and a format circuit for transmitting successive columns of the successive matrix code with blank columns and timing spaces therebetween to facilitate reconstruction of the subscriber code and message. Each of the subscriber units is battery powered and sized to be carried in a pocket of the user's clothing. Each pocket unit includes a receiver, means for detecting a unique subscriber code and enabling the display, for example, a non-impact type thermal printer having a single column of thermal print elements, and a system for advancing a thermally sensitive record tape past the print elements. Synchronism of such pocket printer is controlled by the format of the subscriber code and message, with blank spaces at the end of each column of data being detected to cause the print elements to be heated in accordance with the column data and then the record tape advanced one column width. A receiver having a nonprinting, visual message display is also disclosed.
