    • A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium and information processing apparatuses. The medium stores instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform a method including automatically reading first management data from a first storage medium. The first management data identifies files of source data stored on the first storage medium. One of the files of source data is automatically identified based on the first management data and second management data. The second management data identifies files of transferred data stored on a second storage medium. The one of the files of source data is absent from the second storage medium and automatically transferred to the second storage medium. The one of the files of source data being transferred becomes one of the files of transferred data. The method further includes automatically displaying transferring status of the one of the files of source data by a symbolic figure.

    • The effect of detection errors when detecting if a disc recording medium is in a disc drive is eliminated. A control unit 17 detects if an optical disc 11 was supplied to an optical disc drive 13 based on the operation of the transportation unit 16, causes the optical disc drive 13 to detect if an optical disc 11 is inside the disc drive, and compares the results of these detection operations. If the results do not match, the control unit 17 causes the optical disc drive 13 to repeat the operation discharging and loading the optical disc 11, and causes the optical disc drive 13 to again detect if an optical disc 11 is present after the discharge and loading operation. The control unit 17 then determines if the new detection result from the optical disc drive 13 and the detection result related to supplying the optical disc 11 to the optical disc drive 13 match, and based on the result of this evaluation detects an optical disc drive 13 operating error.

    • A device, system and method is invented to solidify data from temporary storage media to long term storage media without intervention of computer. Those who can not access computer are enabled to use digital recording apparatus, such as digital camera. The operation of the device is restricted in order to increase the ease of use, and to provide the core function. The core function is to read data from temporary storage media, such as various memory cards, and write the data to long term storage media, such as user-writeable CD or DVD. The device features a minimal set of hardware components for accomplishing this function, such as a simplified user interface, an embedded processor, a data reading channel, and a data solidification channel. A data play mode can also be optionally implemented for the user to check the solidified data.

    • Audio information stored in the undulations of grooves in a medium such as a phonograph record may be reconstructed, with little or no contact, by measuring the groove shape using precision metrology methods coupled with digital image processing and numerical analysis. The effects of damage, wear, and contamination may be compensated, in many cases, through image processing and analysis methods. The speed and data handling capacity of available computing hardware make this approach practical. Two examples used a general purpose optical metrology system to study a 50 year old 78 r.p.m. phonograph record and a commercial confocal scanning probe to study a 1920's celluloid Edison cylinder. Comparisons are presented with stylus playback of the samples and with a digitally re-mastered version of an original magnetic recording. There is also a more extensive implementation of this approach, with dedicated hardware and software.
