    • An analytical device according to the present invention comprises a liquid accommodating chamber 9 for accommodating a sample solution of a quantity required for analyzing; a volume measuring chamber 10 connected to the liquid accommodating chamber 9 with a connecting path 13 and disposed in the exterior of the liquid accommodating chamber 9 in a radial direction; an overflowing chamber 11 connected to the volume measuring chamber 10 for accommodating an excessive quantity of the sample solution; and a measuring cell 12 for transferring and measuring the sample solution measured in the volume measuring chamber 10; wherein an overflowing port 14 of the volume measuring chamber 10 is connected to a flow-in port 16 of the overflowing chamber 11 by a capillary path 17.

    • An apparatus and method is provided to obtain a sample of a liquid at a distance. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a telescoping support member, a retaining bracket, a syringe, and a control means that is used to obtain and release a sample of pool water. The sample contained within the syringe is emptied into any type of container to test for chemical parameters such as salinity, free available chlorine, pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness. In another embodiment, the apparatus further comprises a hook on the end of the support shaft that can be used to pick up a variety of items.

    • A bailer has a tapered leading end to reduce agitation and turbidity as the bailer is introduced into a body of liquid fluid. A check valve is unseated and admits liquid fluid into the bailer as the bailer enters the liquid fluid. The check valve is seated and seals the liquid fluid within the bailer against leakage when the bailer is retrieved from the liquid fluid. A first embodiment includes a bottom-emptying device that guides liquid fluid in the bailer into a wide-mouth container. A second embodiment includes a bottom-emptying device that guides the liquid fluid into a narrow mouth container such as a vial. In both embodiments, the bottom-emptying device is tapered and engages the outside walls of the tapered leading end of the bailer. This prevents liquid fluid from wetting a user's hands when the bottom-emptying device is used to unseat the check valve.

    • A probe to measure particulates suspended in molten metal includes an inner tube forming a receiving chamber. The tube includes an orifice permitting molten metal to flow into the chamber. A gas passageway extends out of the tube for connection to a vacuum source. A first electrode including a first member extends into the chamber. A second electrode surrounds a portion of the tube. The first and second electrodes connect to a measurement device for measuring changes in the electrical potential produced by particulates passing through the orifice. A liquidus depressing material within the chamber lowers the liquidus temperature of the molten metal and permits a longer period for measuring particulates therein. A second member is connected to the gas passageway at a first end of the second member. A chill block spaced from the liquidus depressing material is attached to a second end of the second member.
