    • An end of paper roll detection assembly for detecting the end or near-end of a paper roll on a hollow core is provided. The end of paper roll detection assembly includes a detecting bar pivotally mounted on a retaining bar biased towards the side face of the paper roll which is supported on an adjustable paper roll retaining member. When paper is consumed the core is lowered towards the retaining member until the core is aligned with the detecting bar which passes into the hollow core thereby actuating a switch for generating a signal indicating that a predetermined amount of paper remains on the roll. The switch may be a reed switch closed by a permanent magnet secured to the retaining bar or a microswitch operated by the retaining bar. The retaining bar pivots towards the paper roll by action of a pulsating electro-magnet or a spring biasing the retaining bar towards the paper roll.

    • In the apparatus photographic film is transported along a predetermined path of travel. A flap structure is mounted for pivoting movement about a pivot axis between a rest position in which the flap structure blocks the path of film travel and a work position in which the flap structure does not block the path of film travel. The flap structure is so disposed as to be displaced to and maintained in the work position by film being transported along the path of film travel. The pivot axis of the flap structure is oriented parallel to the surface of the portion of the film which engages the flap structure and transverse to the direction of travel of the portion of the film which engages the flap structure. A detecting arrangement indirectly detects the travel of film along the path of film travel by detecting the pivotal displacement of the flap structure.

    • A system for re-winding an elongated moving treating web onto a winding core downstream from a web treating station, the system including web handling means for establishing and maintaining a slack segment in the web downstream from the treating station, and take-up roll means for re-winding the treated web onto the winding core at a substantially constant rate of speed, the rate substantially matching the rate of movement of the web through the treating station. Means are provided for applying tension to the web between the slack loop segment and the winding core. The take-up roll includes a motor means for rotating the winding core and control means for driving the motor means at a certain predetermined arcuate rate responsive to the immediate composite diameter of the core and its wound web. Sensing arm means are arranged for sensing the diameter of the core and its re-wound web portion, the arm means being provided with a profiled cam having its cam surface arranged to provide motion in a cam follower proportional to the reciprocal of the immediate composite diameter of the winding core and the re-wound web.
