    • An apparatus for controlling a press brake is advantageously employable for a press brake for which a high operational efficiency and a high working accuracy are required. In response to inputting of working conditions inclusive of a target bending angle for a plate, the apparatus calculates displacement of a load active on a stationary table and a movable table, automatically calculates a quantity of crowning to be adjusted based on results derived from the foregoing calculation and then calculates the present position assumed by the movable in additional consideration of the quantity of crowning to be adjusted, based on results derived from the aforementioned calculations. The press brake accurately bends the plate based on the thus derived quantity of crowing to be adjusted and the present position assumed by the movable table without an occurrence of malfunction of so-called intermediate opening of the bent plate.

    • A plurality of rams in a pressing machine are movable into and out of a predetermined position to compress power material and shape a die-formed part. The rams are advanced to a pre-selected spaced relationship to form a desired configuration of the die-formed part. Strain gauges are mounted on each ram to detect during the pressing operation elastic deformation, altering the dimension of the ram and the shape of the die-formed part. In response to detected elastic deformation, the strain gauges transmit a signal through a controller to a readout device for recording the magnitude of ram deformation. Thereafter, the press drive mechanism is actuated to move the rams to compensate for the change in dimension of the rams so that the rams are repositioned to maintain the desired spaced relationship for a predetermined configuration of the die-formed part.

    • The drawing tool comprises a hydraulic element for deriving from the movement of the blank holder a simultaneous, oppositely directed movement of the drawing punch. The hydraulic element comprises a centrally disposed working piston, an annular piston, which surrounds that working piston, and a cylinder, which surrounds the annular piston. The working piston and the annular piston are adapted to be supplied with pressure fluid from first and second cylinder chambers which are hydraulically separated from each other and which are adapted to communicate with each other under the control of at least two alternative flow paths, which differ in hydraulic design so that they cause pressure changes on different pressure levels to be effected in the second cylinder chamber. A pressure detector detects the pressure of the fluid in the cylinder chambers and enables an alternative flow path in response to a rise of the pressure above a predetermined limit. As a result, a low-cost, compact tool has been provided, which can be used to make even parts which can be drawn only with great difficulty owing to their desired final shape and/or the material from which they are made.

    • A transducer arrangement provides a feedback signal which indicates the position of a first part relative to a base and when a second movable part is positioned adjacent the first part the transducer provides a signal indicating the spacing between the two parts. Specifically the transducer provides for spacing control between the two halves of a mold mounted in a press wherein a crosshead moves a substantial distance and carries one part of the mold (the upper half) relative to the lower mold part. Hydraulic actuators act on the lower part of the mold to provide the molding force when the mold parts are close together. The transducer is mounted in a housing and arranged to provide a signal used for controlling the hydraulic actuators to control the spacing of the two molds parts until the mold parts are separated a known amount, after which the hydraulic actuators are controlled by sensing the spacing of one mold half relative to the base of the press.

    • The drive cylinder component of a hydraulic press is reciprocable relative to a fixed ram to drive the press slide toward the press bed for the performance of work on a workpiece between the slide and bed. The cylinder component is provided with an integral radially outwardly extending flange about the periphery thereof at the open end of the cylinder, and the press frame is provided with a stop plate surrounding the cylinder and disposed in the path of the flange so as to be engaged thereby as the cylinder approaches its lowermost position with respect to the press bed. The stop plate and flange are adapted to take a full press tonnage load. The flange also supports guide components engaging gibbing on the press frame for guidance and support of the cylinder and thus the slide during reciprocation thereof.
