    • The braking system for one or both of the skates such as in-line skates. The braking system uses a hand held RF transmitter activated by a switch to initiate braking action by a receiver located on the skate. The brake, once actuated, can work directly off the ground and be a friction pad type device on the skate and when activated it drags on the ground or a two-fold friction device composed of a extra back wheel that can be restrained by a pad braking device before it is then lowered to having a restricted roll friction on the ground. The braking device can work directly onto the rolling wheels with a friction pad or again it can be a twofold friction device composed of a small convex braking wheel above the rolling wheels that is slowed by a friction pad device before it is used then to restrict the rolling wheels. The remote radio signal device generates the radio signal which is tied to the braking function of the skate to provide either continuous force or a variable braking force. The system also uses wheel rotation and terrain incline data as an input sent by RF signal to said hand held unit to generate skater data such as distance travelled, speed and the like.

    • A lock system is disclosed for use on an in-line roller skate to positively lock the wheels. The lock system includes a mounting member for mounting the lock to the chassis of a roller skate. The mounting member includes a movable abutment member having a plurality of abutments for selective engagement with the wheels. Hub projections are provided on the wheels for engagement with the abutment member. In another embodiment, the abutment member may comprise a plurality of spaced apart stops for interstitial between wheels to be locked. The arrangements have marked advantages over the existing systems in that the same are readily engagable with a minimum of effort. In this manner, the user can simply engage and disengage the lock device without any encumbrances typically associated with the prior art.

    • The invention provides systems and methods for slowing or stopping a roller skate. In one exemplary system, a roller skate is provided having a frame with a longitudinal axis, a piece of footgear securely attached to the frame, and a plurality of wheels operably attached to the frame in alignment with the longitudinal axis. A braking mechanism is operably attached to the roller skate, with the braking system having a braking pad in alignment with the longitudinal axis. The braking pad is movable between a first position above a skating surface and a second position in contact with the skating surface. An actuator is provided which moves the braking pad between the first and the second positions while the angle of the skate relative to the skating surface remains constant.

    • A boot for use with a snowboard having a binding for attachment to the boot. The boot includes a base, a highback, and an upper. The base includes a binding-receiving plate for attaching the boot to the binding on the snowboard. The base also has toe and heel ends. The base is formed with a toecap at the toe end and has a heel counter at the heel end. Tread projects from the bottom of the base for traction when the boot is not attached to the snowboard. The highback extends upwardly from the heel counter of the base. The highback provides aft support to the user. The upper is fixedly attached to the base and is arranged and configured to receive the foot and ankle of the user. The upper has a rearward side adjacent the highback. The upper is more flexible than the base and the highback. A base strap is connected to opposing sides of the base and extends across a portion of the upper. The binding includes a frame for attachment to the snowboard, a first coupling to secure the forward end of the boot, and a second coupling to secure the rearward end of the boot. The couplings are releasable with arms that extend from the sides of the frame. The coupling that secure the forward end of the boot may include either a set of jaws or a simple hook. Both sets of couplings hold the boot, within the sole of the boot, along an axis near the longitudinal center axis of the sole of the boot.
