    • A depressed collector is provided which is capable of recovering energy from a large orbit gyrating electron beam received from a microwave device, such as a gyrotron. The depressed collector sorts and collects the electrons of the spent electron beam on the basis of their radial energy levels. The depressed collector comprises a plurality of stages of electrodes. Each of the electrode stages have a negative potential applied thereto, with the first of the electrode stages having the greatest negative potential with respect to the microwave device, and the subsequent stages having decreasing relative potential. The depressed collector will sort the electrons from the gyrating electron beam in accordance with their radial energy, with electrons having the highest radial energy being collected on the first electrode, and electrons having lesser amounts of radial energy being collected on the subsequent electrodes.

    • A multistage collector for electron-beam tubes, in particular for klystrons, comprising a plurality of electrode rings (7 to 11 ) which are arranged one behind the other in the direction of the electron beam and which are connected to gradually decreasing electric potentials, and comprising insulating ceramic spacer rings (12 to 16) which interconnect adjacent electrode rings (7 to 11) in an electrically insulating vacuum-tight manner. Flashovers between the collector stages are precluded in that radially outwardly extending first ring-shaped metal casings (19, 20), which can be manufactured in a simple manner are soldered in a vacuum-tight manner to the end regions of the spacer rings (12 to 16), and in that second ring-shaped metal casings (21, 22) are soldered in a vacuum-tight manner to the electrode rings (7 to 11), an annular disc area (21a, 22a) of each of said ring-shaped casings engaging an associated annular disc area (19a, 20a) of a first ring-shaped casing (19, 20) and said annular disc areas being welded together in a vacuum-tight manner, so that two welding collars are formed, and in that the ambient air-accessible outer surfaces of the ring-shaped metal casings (19 to 22) and hence the welding collars are covered by an insulating material.

    • An electron collector is provided for collecting spent electrons generated by a cathode of an electron gun after passage through an interaction region of a microwave device. The collector comprises a bucket having internal walls which define an enclosed region having an entrance aperture through which electrons pass after exiting the microwave device. An electrode is disposed proximate the entrance aperture within the enclosed region. A positive potential is applied to the electrode with respect to the microwave device. The potential forms a substantially ion-free region at the entrance aperture which promotes the efficient dispersal of the spent electrons due to space charge.
