    • A three-layer composite acoustical damping coating of elastomer base materials, in which the temperature and frequency at which the maximum damping occurs in the damping layer can be adjustable by integrating proper matrix materials and properties within the elastomer. A primer coating, e.g. a silicone primer, is first applied to the surface of a structure to form a bonding base for two succeeding acoustical coatings. To inhibit the transmission of sound into and through the structure a second absorber coat of filled matrix elastomer, e.g. a silicone containing tungsten particles, is applied to the bonding base coat. Such second coat is followed by a third coat having a suitable polymer matrix, such as a polyurethane or an epoxy, which may be unfilled or filled, e.g. with siliceous particles, in such a degree as to be acoustically impedance matched to the velocity of the incoming sound waves and density of surrounding medium whereby sound reflection is obviated. The composite coating therefore behaves as an acoustical attenuator to prevent surface reflection of sound.

    • Sound reducing housings in twisters, spinning frames or the like having a plurality of spindle assemblies. The sound reducing housings reduce undesirable sound produced in the machine and are characterized by providing access to the spindle assemblies for servicing while also reducing sound during such servicing. The sound reducing housings include stationary housing elements and movable housing elements mounted on the machine for cooperating with each other for at least partially encapsulating the spindle assemblies and for shielding the interior of the machine. The movable housing elements are displaceable to positions for allowing access by an operator to certain portions of the spindle assemblies for servicing while the stationary housing elements continue to reduce undesirable sound produced by the yarn processing machine.

A passive hydro-acoustic device for providing band pass filtering and detection of low frequency acoustic pressure signals transmitted through water and with said filtering occurring prior to transduction of said signals into electrical energy signals, which comprises input coupling means disposed to provide coupling of acoustic pressure signal intelligence from an external underwater sound field to the interior of said device, a fluid filled housing adapted to be closed by said input coupling means, a hydraulic tube disposed within said housing and in fluid communication with said input coupling means, means in said housing for providing a substantially enclosed air volume in hydraulic shunt relation to said input coupling means, an electrolytic detector cell for providing an electrical signal output and disposed in fluid communication with the end of said hydraulic tube remote from said input coupling means and a fluid filled chamber of substantial capacity disposed in said housing for providing said fluid communication between said hydraulic tube, said detector cell and said air volume means.
