摘要： Process for preparing polyglycerolated nonionic surfactants from (poly)hydroxylated organic compounds, by condensing glycerol monochlorohydrin with the said (poly)hydroxylated compound in the presence of a strong base, at a temperature below 150.degree. C. and in the presence of an aromatic solvent, removing the water formed by distillation as it forms.This process makes it possible to condense a relatively large quantity of glycerol monochlorohydrin in a single step, while limiting the formation of polyglycerols, and to obtain a good quality surfactant which is usable in cosmetic compositions.

摘要： For the preparation of an ether, e.g., tertiary amyl methyl ether, an olefin-containing feed stream is catalytically etherified with an alcohol, e.g., methyl alcohol. The etherification product is fractionally distilled into an overhead fraction containing essentially unreacted, light hydrocarbons and unreacted alcohol and into a bottoms fraction containing essentially the desired ether. The overhead fraction is condensed and cooled to resultant immiscible phases, of which one contains essentially the alcohol and the other contains essentially the hydrocarbons, are removed separately from each other. Water may be added to the overhead stream to facilitate the formation of the two liquid phases.

摘要： The process comprises: (a) initiating a feed of molten diphenyl oxide to a substantially anhydrous mixture of methylene dibromide solvent, elemental bromine (Br.sub.2) and an aluminum trihalide catalyst at a temperature between about 10.degree. and about 30.degree. C.; (b) heating the reaction mixture to about 50.degree.-60.degree. C., and while maintaining the temperature at about 50.degree.-60.degree. C., continuing the feed of molten diphenyl oxide until the total amount fed is equivalent to (i) about 0.064 to about 0.077 mole per mole of elemental bromine (Br.sub.2) employed in the reaction, and (ii) about 0.2 to about 10 parts by weight per part by weight of methylene dibromide employed in the reaction; (c) steam distilling the methylene dibromide solvent and the residual bromine from the reaction mixture; (d) recovering decabromodiphenyl oxide from the distilland; and (e) drying the methylene dibromide and bromine distillate to render them suitable for reuse in the process.

Methyl t-butyl ether can be readily separated from close boiling hydrocarbons by using extractive distillation in which the extractive agent is higher boiling oxygenated, nitrogenous and/or sulfur containing organic compound or a mixture of two or more of these. 摘要： The reaction product from etherification of C.sub.4 -C.sub.7 isoolefins with methanol in the presence of an acidic catalyst is washed with water in the presence of inert hydrocarbons thereby removing methanol and a part of the tertiary alcohol. The aqueous extract solution bottoms is distilled to separate methanol as overhead. Tertiary alcohols are withdrawn as a side stream from a tray of the distillation column with a high concentration thereof and fed into the washing column.

When driers are not used on the hydrocarbon feed to MTBE manufacture, a separate water-methanol phase occurs in the fractionation overhead which is separately processed in a methanol fractionator and the water recovered is used to water wash the separated hydrocarbon phase from the overhead while methanol is recycled to MTBE and when driers are used on the hydrocarbon feed a separate methanol phase occurs in the fractionation overhead which can be recycled to MTBE manufacture and the hydrocarbon phase is directly passed to a drier preceding alkylation.

摘要： A distillation-reactor for separating constituents of a feedstock having similar boiling points includes at least one stage with containing screens defining a series of containment volumes for a heterogeneous particulate catalyst. The catalyst is fluidized within the volumes defined by the containing screens by the action of vapor passing through the tray. Liquid flowing across the tray intimately contacts the fluidized catalyst and vapor without the occurrence of liquid back-up or high pressure drop.
