    • A vehicle having a body 25 supported respective pairs of front and rear wheels, 30, 31, 32, 33, two piston and cylinder units, 23-24, 35-36, 37-38, 34-39, being associated with each wheel and connected between the wheel 30 and body 25 so the piston moves in the cylinders in response to relative movement between the wheel and the body. An individual fluid circuit 40, 41, 42, 43, connecting one piston and cylinder unit 23 of each wheel 30 to a corresponding unit 34 longitudinally spaced therefrom on the same side of the vehicle, and the other piston and cylinder unit 24 of each wheel to a corresponding unit 35 on the transversely opposite side of the vehicle. This arrangement results in the fluid pressure in any two piston and cylinder units interconnected by an individual fluid circuit being equal, and relative movement between any one wheel and the vehicle body induces an opposite relative movement between the vehicle body and the wheel in fluid circuit therewith to maintain tractive ground engagement of all wheels.

    • A vehicle with an improved suspension system having a chassis with a bogie on each side of the chassis. The vehicle has a hydraulic system that includes actuator means connected between each bogie and the chassis for maintaining the chassis generally level on level ground. The hydraulic system includes first and second connecting systems extending between the two actuator means in a manner to have movement of one wheel in one bogie in one direction tend to cause movement of the corresponding wheel in the other bogie in the opposite vertical direction to the one direction to minimize tilting of the chassis. The improved suspension system also includes a second hydraulic system that can be selectively connected to one of the first and second connecting systems to tilt the chassis relative to the bogies in one direction or the other so as to generally maintain the chassis level on ground that slopes in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.

    • A control system for a hydraulic suspension on a road vehicle comprises a common hydraulic connection for the suspensions of the wheels in a group, the vehicle being supported on a plurality of such wheel groups. Each said wheel group has a control valve for regulating fluid flow between its common hydraulic connection and a pressure source. The system includes means for generating first electrical signals corresponding to the vertical accelerations of the respective groups, means responsive to the first signals for generating second signals corresponding to the calculated vertical displacements of the respective wheel groups as a result of their vertical accelerations, means for generating third electrical signals corresponding to measured vertical displacements of the wheel groups, and means, responsive to differences between corresponding ones of the second and third signals for operating the respective control valves.

    • A vehicle suspension more particularly for three pairs of ground-engaging wheels at the back of a semi-trailer. The axle of each wheel is carried by the free end of a crank arm pivoted intermediate its ends to a support member secured to and projecting underneath the semi-trailer chassis. The other end of each crank arm is pivotally connected to the piston rod of a single-acting hydraulic cylinder and piston unit, the cylinder of which is pivotally connected to a support secured to the vehicle chassis. All the cylinders of the units on one side of the trailer chassis are interconnected by flexible hydraulic tubing. The set of units on one side of the semi-traler are not connected to the set of units on the other side of the trailer and the wheel axles on one side of the trailer are independent of the wheel axles on the other side of the trailer. A predetermined amount of hydraulic fluid fills the cylinders. When a wheel is raised or lowered with respect to the vehicle while riding over a hump or dropping into a recess of the road surface, there is a transfer of hydraulic fluid to the cylinders of the remaining wheels moving the same in the opposite direction. The hydraulic fluid can also compress an air bag located in a chamber in communication with the fluid circuit of the units so as to act as an air spring.
