    • A metal member (3) is bonded with an adhesive (6) to have a bond strength higher than the basic material strength of the metal member (3). A metal insertion coupling has a socket portion (4) in which an insertion hole (2a) for inserting the end portion of the metal member (3) is formed. The socket portion (4) has a tapered outer surface extending from the opening end to the back side. The tensile strength of the socket portion (4) at the deepest position along the center line of the insertion hole is equal to or higher than the tensile strength of the metal member (3) in the direction of the center line. The insertion hole (2a) has a width 0.2 mm-0.6 mm larger than that of the end portion of the metal member (3). The end portion of the metal member (3) is pressed into the insertion hole (2a), and an adhesive exists densely between the end portion of the metal member (3) and the surface of the insertion hole (2a), by quenching or cold working the end portion of the metal member (3).

    • The sleeve has a cylindrical metal tube with a plastic core. The metal tube has one or more grooves on the inner surface of the tube that run along at least a portion of the length of the tube. The plastic core fills the annular space between the metal tube and the rod of a rotary dental instrument, such that plastic material (1) fills the grooves to anchor the plastic core to the metal sleeve and (2) is molded to rigidly link the rod to the sleeve. The present invention reduces the exposure of plastic material in the sleeve, thereby reducing plastic swelling that can occur when the dental instrument is repeatedly cleaned using disinfectants.

    • A roofer's ripping spade is fabricated by inserting an end of a tool handle into a handle receiving socket of a tool head having a blade and a back-side cavity in the blade. A molded composite block including a fulcrum portion and a frog portion is positioned adjacent to a lower surface of the blade such that the fulcrum portion extends away from a lower surface of the blade and the frog portion is situated within and configured to fill the back-side cavity. Attachment rivets extend through aligned apertures in the fulcrum portion of the composite block and the blade to fasten the composite block to the blade. A tang element has a first end secured to the frog portion of the composite block, and a second end secured to the tool handle, to interconnect the frog portion of the composite block with the end of the tool handle inserted into the handle receiving socket of the tool head.

    • A method of assemblying a hammer from a handle, a wedge unit and a hammer head unit. The handle has a top end having a neck portion that has a pair of vertical slots that intersect each other at substantially 90 degrees to each other. The wedge unit is formed from an x-axis wedge and a z-axis wedge section that are oriented to each other at substantially 90 degrees. The hammer head unit has a hammer portion a central portion and a claw portion. The central portion has a bore hole that extends from its top surface to its bottom surface. An arbor press is used to press the wedge section into the grooves on the top end of the handle.

    • A closed back shovel is fabricated by placing a frog within a back-side cavity of a standard open back shovel head. The frog is configured to fill the back-side cavity of the shovel blade. A tang element interconnects the frog and a forward end of a tool handle positioned within a tool receiving socket of the blade, within a handle receiving socket, to secure the tool handle to the shovel head. A process for assembling a closed back shovel includes the steps of securing the tang element to the frog, heating the tang element and placing the frog within the back-side cavity of the shovel blade so that the tang element extends into the handle receiving socket, and aligning a tool handle with the tang element by inserting the handle front end into the handle receiving socket. The tool handle includes a thermoplastic section in proximity into the front end thereof, having an elongate tang receiving channel. The heated tang element is driven into the tang receiving channel such that as the tang element engages the tool handle, the thermoplastic section surrounding the tang receiving channel is softened and flows into intimate contact around the tang element and then hardens as the heat of the tang element is dissipated to hold the tang element in place.
