    • A cutting device for cutting a vegetable and the like including a cup-shaped lower housing, an inverted cup-shaped upper housing with a connecting apparatus for connecting these housings, a cutter disk arranged in the lower housing, and a fixing apparatus attached to the lower housing.     • Apparatus for reducing to a smaller size residue or debris left behind after a tree processing or harvesting operation wherein the debris is dropped into a vertical assembly having a first reduction stage followed by a second reduction stage and below which there is mounted a fan or other conveyor means for delivering the reduced size of particles to a collecting container or other area. Being vertically oriented, there is self feeding from one unit to another and on the initial reduction unit, if desired, other impeller means can be utilized for infeeding the material to the cutters. The apparatus may be permanently mounted at a suitable location or, alternatively be mounted on a self-propelled mobile vehicle, movable from one location or another, and towing a trailer having a chip collecting container mounted thereon.

    • A hydraulic drive arrangement for a shear-type shredder includes an electrically operable control circuit, including a jam sensor external to the hydraulic fluid circuit, for sensing jamming conditions in the shredder and reversing the flow in the fluid circuit only when a true jamming condition is sensed. The jam sensor is located in the electrical power circuit to the electric motor driving the hydraulic fluid pump for sensing the load on the motor. An electric discriminator circuit responds to the sensor to distinguish between load changes due to true and momentary jamming conditions in the shredder. An actuator responsive to the discriminator actuates a flow-reversing valve in the hydraulic circuit to reverse fluid flow therein to reverse the shredder and thereby clear the jamming condition. The hydraulic fluid circuit, including a pressure relief valve, and the electric motor, dampen any abrupt changes in load due to momentary jamming conditions in the shredder so that they do not cause the discriminator to actuate the flow-reversing valve.

    • A rotary shredder for waste materials has a pair of counterrotating cutting shafts, each of which mounts a series of spaced-apart disc-type cutters. The cutters on one shaft extend into the spaces between cutters on the other shaft so that the cutters on the two shafts coact to shred material fed therebetween. The two shafts are driven by a reversible radial piston hydraulic motor through a gear train arranged to rotate one cutter shaft at twice the speed of the other. The hydraulic motor is driven by an electric motor-driven fixed or variable displacement pump. A flow-reversing valve in the hydraulic motor control circuit controls the direction of fluid flow through the hydraulic motor. The reversing valve is electrically actuated automatically by a fluid pressure-operated switch to reverse flow and the direction of rotation of the cutters to prevent jamming whenever fluid pressure in the motor circuit rises to an abnormally high level. Upon detecting high pressure, the switch energizes a time delay relay which closes a relay contact to energize a solenoid which actuates the flow-reversing valve for a predetermined time period, after which the valve shifts to its normal position to operate the hydraulic motor in its normal directional mode to resume shredding.

    • A mixing and grinding apparatus comprising a bucket-like container having a centrally positioned, elongate, spindle-rod extending from the container base axially into the container cavity, and a cutting blade assembly defining an elongate, tubular shaft having a transverse cutting blade affixed thereto, the internal diameter of the tubular shaft larger than the diameter of the spindle-rod to be receivable thereover for rotation therearound. Rotative power for driving the cutting blade assembly is provided by a standard electric drill. The spindle-rod acts as a guide for the cutting blade assembly during rotation, insuring the maintainance of its axial alignment in the container as it is longitudinally displaced during mixing and grinding.
