    • A pipe clamp has a U-bolt with legs each of which is provided with first and second tandemly arranged frustoconical circumferential ribs with planar annular bases that define the distal margins of circumferential grooves in the U-bolt legs, and a C-shaped sheet metal saddle having a hollow body portion with inside edges that are separated by a space less than the maximum width of the body portion. The saddle has circumferentially slit extremities each of which has aligned transverse internal flanges with opposed inner margins that define split circular openings which are dimensioned to permit the flanges to snap around the circumferential ribs and engage in the grooves. The U-bolt and saddle are adapted to loosely encircle a pipe when the flanges are engaged in the first grooves, and are adapted to firmly clamp the pipe when the flanges are engaged in the second grooves.

    • A clamp consists of a clamp bolt cooperating with an arcuate saddle which together encircle an article to be clamped, the clamp bolt constituting tightening means for tightening the clamp on the article. The saddle terminates in two tubular portions which receive the bolt and provide respective bearing surfaces for the head and the clamping nut, or the two clamping nuts, depending on the nature of the bolt. The saddle is formed by stamping from a rectangular blank of thin flat sheet metal, the blank being formed into a hollow tube with the longer edges in contact with one another and bent to the necessary arcuate shape, the joint between the longer edges being disposed in the radially inner concave face so that it contacts the article to be clamped. The radially-outer central tube wall portion preferably is collapsed into contact with the radially-inner central tube wall portion so as to form a double-walled channel-section saddle with the said tubular portions integral therewith formed by the uncollapsed tube ends. Preferably the channel is of semi-circular transverse cross section.

    • A clamp for securing together in locked relationship a pair of telescoped pipes or tubes. The clamp consists of a novel U-bolt having a small radius portion, two outwardly diverging tapered sections and two parallel threaded arms, and a novel saddle member having a semicircular cut-out and being further chamfered adjacent the ends of the semicircular cut-out to define a greater diameter. The assembly when in its loading position will accept a pipe joint of greater outside diameter than the inner diameter of the tightened clamp; and wherein tightening of the clamp initially deforms the pipe joint into an ovaled configuration and impresses a bead thereabout for 360.degree..

    • A saddle clamp comprises a hollow unit saddle body of general U-shape with bottom wall and upturned side walls having opposed substantially semi-circular inner edge portions. End portions of the bottom wall terminate in upturned continuous formed sockets. Edge portions of said side walls and corresponding portions inwardly of said edge portions above said sockets are oppositely inturned defining tubular extensions of said sockets. A U-bolt projects through the tubular extensions, sockets and bottom wall having adjustable fasteners thereon. The inner arcuate edge portions of the saddle define with the U-bolt an internal annular gripping surface extending throughout 360 degrees. The saddle clamp assembly is adapted for application to a pair of assembled inner and outer pipe sections with said annular inner gripping surface forming on and completely around the outer pipe section an annular deformation therein with a corresponding annular deformation within and around the inner pipe section, providing an airtight seal therebetween. The saddle body is formed from a unit blank with the side walls as extensions of the bottom wall and with the sockets and tubular extensions formed as an integral extension of the bottom wall and adjacent portions of the side walls.

    • A rod has teeth serrated along the sides of its end sections or rolled thereon somewhat as a thread. The rod is bent thereafter into U-shape having an arcuate web which encompasses one-half of a circular element such as a pipe, collar or the like. A locking element or saddle has spaced apertures to receive the two serrated ends when moved thereover to advance spring fingers into engagement with the serrations. The fingers retain the locking element or saddle in locked relation on the U-bolt which is secured to a collar which is clamped on a pipe or the like. Such an arrangement eliminates the expensive casting which requires machining and the cost of advancing nuts on the thread on the legs to secure the saddle thereon.
