    • Disclosed is a system and a methodology enabling a first provider party to provide to a second recipient party software and services to enable the recipient party to embed in an Internet e-mail of the recipient party directed to an addressee, an HTML hyperlink file which includes a telecommunication initiating trigger, sending the e-mail to the addressee via the Internet, the addressee upon receiving the e-mail actuating the hyperlink via its trigger and, responsive to the trigger actuation, connecting the addressee via the Internet to a web page located on an Internet server, wherein the web page includes a request for a telephone number of the addressee. The addressee entering its telephone number information at the server, which information is communicated to a database associated with the server, the server communicating with the database and with a telephony switch, including sending to the switch instructions which result in the switch originating and managing a public switched telephone network (PSTN) communication between the recipient party and the addressee.

    • A system and method for a server to provide an early notification to a target group devices when paging a wireless device during a push-to-talk (PTT) communication. When a wireless device is ready to transmit a PTT communication, a message is sent from the wireless device to a server that then sends an early PING message to a base station while processing a call request message from the wireless device. After processing the call request message, the server sends an announce message to the base station. On receipt of the PING message, the base station sends a paging message to all targeted devices while processing the announce message. The early PING message causes a communication channel to be established between a targeted device and the base station, and the communication channel can then be used by the announce message with less set-up time.

    • A method and apparatus to provide access to a dispatch system is disclosed. A communications manager (40) grants an exclusive system talker privilege to one remote unit (10) in the system at a time. After a remote unit (10) requests and is designated as the exclusive system talker, no other remote unit (20, 22) may transmit for a first pre-determined amount of time. After the first pre-determined time has elapsed, any other remote unit (20, 22) may request the exclusive system talker privilege and become the exclusive system talker. The exclusive system talker privilege is revoked by the communications manager (40) to any remote unit who retains the exclusive system talker privilege for more than a second pre-determined amount of time. The exclusive system talker privilege is also revoked upon the release of a push-to-talk button on a remote unit (10). Furthermore, a base station (44) in communication with a remote unit (10) designated as the exclusive system talker will generate a surrogate relinquishment request to the communications manager (40) if the exclusive system talker travels outside the coverage area of the system, loses power, or is destroyed.

    • A land mobile radio communication system has a plurality of cell sites, each of which typically has a plurality of repeaters. The over-the-air radio communications between the cell site repeaters and the mobile radios in the system include both a voice component and a data component. The data component is carried as low-frequency subaudible information. Communication channels are provided between the radio users at each site as well as between users at different sites and between mobile radio users and the public telephone network. Within a cell site, the transmitted and received communications are digitized and passed through serial buses in a time multiplex fashion. The digitized voice is transferred between time slots to provide the required switching function. The system includes operational software to provide direct inward dial telephone number recognition, automatic voice prompts for a user entering a new cell, call priority override, fraud control for radio fleets and a dynamic control channel.

    • A distributed trunked radio frequency (RF) switching network (multisite switch) distributes audio routing control information and digitized audio signals to communications interface modules (nodes) throughout the multisite switch, thus avoiding a centralized mixing matrix, increasing fault tolerance and providing low routing request latency time. Each audio source, (for example, RF repeater transmitter, dispatch console microphone) is preassigned an audio channel on a time division multiplexed (TDM) digitized "audio network" or bus within the switch. The audio sources continually provide digitized audio signals to all other nodes within the switch over the assigned TDM bus channels. Audio routing is performed at the audio destinations (for example, interface modules/nodes associated with RF repeater receivers, dispatch console speakers) by selectively "listening" to active TDM network channels. In the preferred embodiment, audio is routed undirectionally on an "as needed" basis (for example, in response to radio transceiver "keys" and "unkeys"), and audio routing pathways may change dynamically during an on-going call.
