    • The present invention relates to a bias tracking network that manipulates the DC value of the control voltage applied to the active devices in each quasi-optic cell within an array of cells. The purpose of this network is to compensate for variations in the main DC bias supply voltage provided to each cell. In one embodiment, the bias tracking network includes a set of resistive voltage dividers at the boundary of each cell, together with resistors inserted within the conductors that carry a reference voltage from which the control voltage for each cell is derived. This impedance network introduced at each cell boundary causes the control voltage to nulltracknull the variation in the voltage of the return lead (i.e., the nullground leadnull) at each cell in the array, in order to maintain a consistent (or desired) control voltage distribution to each cell in the array.

    • The widebeam antenna includes a tapered dielectric waveguide having a radiating end and an end for coupling electromagnetic energy into and out of the dielectric waveguide. A conducting sleeve surrounds the dielectric waveguide. A corrugated flange surrounds the sleeve near the radiating end of the waveguide and a dielectric ring also surrounds the radiating end of the waveguide. It is preferred that the dielectric ring have a dielectric constant in the range of 2.0 to 4.0. The structure of the invention provides substantially uniform hemispherical coverage for the transmission and reception of electromagnetic energy.

    • A flat face annular grooved metal surface surrounds a circular waveguide opening coupled to a small dipole radiator which excites the circular waveguide in its fundamental propagating mode (TE.sub.11). The dipole is arranged to rotate about its axis by means of an extension of its inner conductor, which forms a simple probe in a section of rectangular waveguide situated behind the circular waveguide. A dielectric shaft is fastened to the inner conductor and is brought to the outside of the rectangular waveguide where it is connected to a small motor. The motor is arranged so that it may be actuated remotely by any of several circuits. The dipole may be before the corrugated plate with bent arms.     • A floodlight radar system includes a transmitter arranged to generate output waveforms at first and second centre frequencies, and at least one transmit antenna configured to illuminate a search volume constantly at the first and second centre frequencies. A sparse array of receive antennas is arranged in a common plane and configured to monitor the search volume constantly. The system includes a receive circuit arranged to extract target position information from return signals received by each antenna, and a signal processor circuit which is arranged to resolve ambiguity in the position information using a known relationship between calculated Doppler spectra, wavelengths and phase differences at the first and second frequencies, to calculate azimuth, elevation, range and velocity of a target identified in the search volume. The system is able to rapidly detect and locate multiple fast moving targets in three dimensions.
