    • A communication navigation system is provided with a communication center apparatus (3) and a communication terminal apparatus (4, 5), both of which transmit and receive information by two-way communication through a communication network (1, 2). The communication center apparatus is provided with: a processing device (72) for generating request correspondence information including route information indicating a planned route corresponding to request information and generating, if at least one portion of the planned route is present out of a service area of the communication navigation system, announcement information for announcing this fact; and a center side communication device (71, 73) for receiving the request information and transmitting the request correspondence information and the announcement information through the communication network. The communication terminal apparatus is provided with: a terminal side communication device (38) for transmitting the request information and receiving at least the announcement information through the communication network; and an input device for inputting the request information and giving an opportunity of inputting the request information in response to the reception of the announcement information.

    • A service center for offering various services through a communication network, a plurality of service stations for transmitting/receiving information to/from the service center through the communication network, and a user terminal for transmitting/receiving information to/from the service center or the service station through the communication network are provided. An optimum service station is selected based on a service request from the user and the user is led to that service station, the user can reach a specific service station in a short period of time without going astray.     • A system and method are disclosed that allow a navigation system that uses a geographic database to also use the data in traffic messages broadcast by a traffic broadcast system. One aspect of a present system and method includes the formation, storage, and use of location reference data records in a geographic database used by a navigation system. These location reference data records identify certain other kinds of data records that represent physical geographic features, such as data records that represent segments of roads, as being associated with certain location reference numbers. These location reference records may be included in a geographic database installed in the vehicle or may be provided to vehicles via a wireless communication link. Another aspect of a present system and method includes the formation, storage, and use of one or more indices that relate location reference numbers used by a traffic broadcast system to location reference records in a geographic database used by the navigation system. Another aspect of a present system and method is the formation, storage, and use of data that identify, for each location reference number, the immediately previous and the immediately next location reference number. Still another aspect of a present system and method includes the programming, and methods of use thereof, that query the geographic database and return the data entities associated with certain identified location reference numbers.

    • A commucations navigation system in which data is transmitted and received between a navigation base apparatus provided at a navigation base and a vehicle navigation apparatus provided in a vehicle using communication. The vehicle navigation apparatus is adapted to transmit at least data concerning the current position of the vehicle and the destination thereof to the navigation base apparatus, and the navigation base apparatus stores navigation data in its data base and is adapted to determine a recommended route based on the transmitted data of the current position of the vehicle and the destination thereof and then extract data of the recommended route from the navigation data stored in the data base and transmit the extracted data to the navigation apparatus. The navigation base apparatus is adapted to be able to extract detailed navigation data only for a surrounding areas of a specified point on the recommended route from the navigation data stored in the data base and then transmit the detailed navigation data to the navigation apparatus. The specified point includes a departure point, a destination and a course-change point which are located on the recommended route. During traveling other places on the recommended route such as intermediate sections, the navigation apparatus transmits simple navigation data such as a simple map to the vehicle, thereby enabling to reduce an amount of data to be transmitted from the navigation base apparatus to the vehicle navigation apparatus.

    • A vehicle traffic control system that does not cause course conflicts at intersections. A present position, speed, and destination of each vehicle are collected, vectors are generated to indicate possible courses for each vehicle on the basis of the collected information, and vectors indicating courses of each vehicle are combined to generate matrices. Only matrices where a plurality of vehicles do not approach an identical intersection at or around the same time, or even if such a situation occurs, only matrices where a course of a certain vehicle does not cross a course of another vehicle at that intersection, are employed. Of the employed matrixes, one is selected indicating a course set in which an average time required for each vehicle to reach a destinations is shortest.
