    • A method for administering clinical trial material includes a method for administering clinical trial material, comprising the steps of providing at least one kit containing a plurality of bottles, each with two separate indicia appearing thereon, at least one of the bottles containing a quantity of clinical material at a first dosage, and another at least one of the bottles containing one of a quantity of the clinical material at a second dosage, a quantity of control drug and a placebo; identifying first and second study groups, each providing a treatment schedule for administering dosages of at least one of the clinical material, the control drug and the placebo, the first and second study groups having different treatment schedules; randomly assigning patients to the first and second study groups; assigning at least one investigator to administer the contents of the plurality of bottles; telephone means accessible to the investigator and having a keypad; providing sponsor computer means including telephony capabilities and for storing information, disseminating information, and instructions over the telephone to the investigators, and for receiving information and instructions over the telephone from the investigators, the computer means operable, upon being contacted by the investigator, to identify which of the plurality of bottle of the kit is to be disseminated to an identified patient, but requiring the investigator to confirm selection of the correct bottle by requesting the investigator to enter into the telephone keypad one of the identifying indicia appearing on the selected bottle; and distributing the at least one kit to said investigator.

    • A data retrieval and acquisition system having a wireless handheld interface for data entry by the user. The system includes a communication server for communicating, such as through IR signals, with the handheld interfaces. The communications server communicates with multiple command servers and with a master server and/or other communication servers through a communications bus. The handheld interface includes touch screen which is operated through an event driven architecture. The user is allowed to enter data through virtual rolling keys, a scroll bar, virtual key pad, bar code reader, and the like. The system minimized the transmission time by minimizing the necessary information transmitted and by synchronizing the operation of the handheld interfaces with the corresponding communications server. The communications server transmits information to the handheld through a first unique protocal and to the command server through a second unique protocal. Data transmission is further reduces by using shorthand command codes for constants, such as for commands, user names, and the like.

    • A method and apparatus for creating and using a reusable medical protocol to create a patient chart is provided. The protocol is created by selecting various medical findings from a database containing a plurality of coded medical findings, wherein the coded medical findings are grouped into several different sections such as a symptoms section, a history section, a physical findings section, a diagnoses section, a test section and a therapy section. Once the medical findings have been selected, the order of the display of the findings within the protocol is selected. The created protocol is then displayed on a display screen. The healthcare professional then selects medical findings displayed in the protocol which describe the patient's situation. According to the present, the selected medical findings are automatically placed in the correct section of the patient chart based upon the code of the selected medical finding, wherein the patient chart is divided into the same sections as the protocol.

    • A method and apparatus for measuring a patient's psychotherapy progress is provided. Initial patient mental health is measured by administering a questionnaire measuring three psychological variables. The three psychological variable measures are combined into a mental health index. Following a number of sessions of psychotherapy, the patient's subsequent psychological condition is again measured using the three psychological variables. Patient session records are stored in a large database. Patient progress can thus be compared versus patient initial psychological condition, typical patient outcomes as stored in the database, and patient improvement as a function of a number of sessions of psychotherapy can be determined. The system further provides a case manager with a measure of the effectiveness of continued psychotherapy sessions, and a basis of comparison of various psychotherapy providers.

    • A patient report generating system for receiving, storing and reporting medical test data for an entire patient population by periodically forming individual patient reports containing all test results for each patient for the total time period during which the patient has been a member of the patient population. Each report is organized to present the cumulative test data in a highly compact pattern of data packages wherein each data package includes only results of tests making up a particular organ system disease related subset of tests. The disclosed apparatus includes a data entry terminal, such as a keyboard input, for generating a digital electrical field for each test which field identifies the test, the test results, the date of the test and the patient. Also included is a random access memory for receiving and storing all signal fields and a high speed printer for forming a hard copy of the patient report from the stored data. To insure that each patient report is formatted identically with all other reports, the system includes a control memory for generating report and data package formatting signals which cause the printer to present the test data in consistent orthogonally arranged data packages wherein the test data within each data package is organized to assist the clinician to assimilate and understand the test data in the least possible time.
