摘要： The present invention relates to a device for home monitoring of haematological parameters of patients. In particular, the device may be configured for home monitoring of patients undergoing chemotherapy. A white blood cell counter is presented in combination with a physically separated user device. The user interface and the white blood cell counter are configured to exchange data with each other. The present invention allows the white blood cell counter to be produced at lower costs, since no display is integrated into it directly. The patients may use the user interface device anywhere in their home or even on the go, allowing the maximum in freedom to fill in patient-reported outcomes or health assessment questionnaires. Also taking temperature readings is facilitated. In the home, a white blood cell test can be performed if required. The user interface guides the patient through the correct process and may therefore be brought to the cell counter.

The system may also determine product count-per-weight, product volume-per-weight, and/or product surface-area-per-weight. These determinations may be useful, including in determining product processing and packaging options.

The populations are modeled as a finite mixture of multivariate probability distributions, preferably normal or t distributions. The distribution parameters that provide a best fit of the model distribution to the data are estimated using an Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm that further includes a dynamic neighborhood thresholding that enables gating of a subset of the clusters present in the data.

One method of counting comprises imaging the sample with the pollen well-distributed in the focal plane of the imager. Image evaluation software can identify and count objects in the image that are consistent with pollen. Total pollen count for the plant can be derived from the count of pollen of the sample, proportionality of the sample volume to the starting volume, and proportionality of area of sample imaged to total area of sample. Pollen quantification can be used for research or commercial production decisions relative to the plant or its seed.
