    • A surge suppressor and safety shut-off valve is described which automatically shuts off fluid flow in response to a sufficient pressure differential across the valve. The shut-off valve comprises a valve body adapted for use within a fluid distribution system through which a predetermined flow of a fluid is nominally allowed to pass. A flow restricting means is disposed therein that reduces the maximum flow when triggered by a sufficient pressure differential between inlet and outlet. By way of example, the flow restricting means is preferably provided by a poppet which is slidably engaged within the valve chamber to restrict fluid flow therethrough. The poppet is preferably adapted with a very low volume bypass port through which opposing pressures at valve inlet and outlet may be equalized for automatically resetting of the valve after the surge has passed, or a rupture has been repaired.

    • A flow control valve is disclosed wherein a housing defines a flow chamber with an inlet and an outlet. Disposed within the flow chamber is a poppet assembly comprising an inner poppet and an outer poppet. A first spring is selected to bias the outer poppet to seal closed the inlet below a predetermined fluid flow rate. Above the fluid flow rate, the force of the fluid against the outer poppet compresses the spring, breaking the seal and allowing fluid to flow into the fluid flow chamber. Inside the outer poppet is an inner poppet which extends from the outer poppet. A second spring biases the inner poppet predominantly within the outer poppet, but an increased pressure inside the outer poppet collapses the second spring and extends the inner poppet in a fully extended position. Fully extended the inner poppet shuts the outlet of the fluid chamber thereby arresting the flow. In operation, the first spring shuts the valve below a predetermined flow rate guaranteeing zero flow until a minimum flow rate is present. Furthermore, if a leak occurs downstream (beyond the outlet) or the flow rate is above a predetermined maximum flow rate the second spring is collapsed by an upstream/downstream pressure differential causing the inner poppet to seal the outlet. Thus, the valve operates only between a minimum and maximum flow rate and seals in the event of a downstream leak.

    • An anti-geyser shut-off valve assembly for a water sprinkler irrigation system. It has a valve housing, a valve member, a coil spring, and a push nut that would be installed on the elongated shaft member of the valve housing for restricting the distance that the valve member may be biased away from a valve housing. When a sprinkler housing is mounted above the shut-off valve assembly and is operating properly, there is minimal obstruction to the water flow passing therethrough. If the sprinkler head or riser is broken off, the uncontrolled geyser of water will be automatically shut off and a thin stream of water would be sprayed upwardly to function as a flag identifying that the sprinkler head requires repair.

    • A gas stream monitor shall be provided that facilitates the adjustment of the reseat flow. The gas stream monitor consists of a gas-tight casing whose interior is equipped with a seat for a reseat body that is movable inside the casing and is kept in open position against the flow direction by weight and/or spring force, in which the flow cross-section, surface area of the reseat body and the forces are determined in such a manner that gas stream monitor leaves its open position at a defined value of the reseat flow and is moved towards the seat of the casing, so that the gas conduit is closed in the shut position, and has outside the casing at least one manipulator to adjust the spring pre-tension and/or the stroke of the reseat body. The gas stream monitor serves to automatically shut off gas conduits upon the occurrence of an inadmissible flow increase due to, e.g. a damaged gas conduit or a defective consumer.

    • A device (11) for restricting excess flow through a conduit (34) includes a unitary injection molded tubular body (12) having a bore (13) in which an annular valve seat (21) and a spring support shoulder (19) are formed. A poppet valve member (22) is positioned within the bore (13) and is biased away from the valve seat (21) by a compression spring (26). The inlet section of the tubular body (12) has a plurality of longitudinally extending arms (27) forming longitudinally extending fluid passageways (28) therebetween to provide bypasses around the poppet valve member (22) when the poppet valve member (22) is in its open position. The arms (27) are spaced apart about the outer periphery of the inlet section, and the distal end (27a) of each arm (27) has a radially inwardly projecting element (31) to retain the poppet valve member (22) in the bore (13). However, the arms (27) are flexible such that the distal ends (27a) can be moved radially outwardly sufficiently to permit the insertion of the poppet valve member (22) therebetween into the bore (13) during the fabrication of the device. A bleed passageway (29) can be provided for automatic reset of the device.
