    • A molding system and method for installation that covers existing molding. The molding system covers existing trim for doorways and floors with a more decorative molding. The invention includes a molding overlay that has three points of contact. An upper corner block covers the intersections of the existing doorway molding, and a lower corner block covers a section of the existing doorway molding with the existing baseboard, eliminating the need to cut mitered angles in the overlay molding. Recesses in the backside of the corner blocks allow the corner blocks to receive the old molding. The molding overlay abuts the corner blocks, thereby avoiding the requirements for making any cuts other than perpendicular cuts.

    • A kit releasably attachable to a wall includes a plurality of elongated members, and at least one hook-and-loop fastener. The plurality of members are releasably attachable to the wall with the at least one hook-and-loop fastener to define at least one frame. For example, the kit may be elongated members for framing a door or a window. The kit may also include at least one panel to be framed such as a raised panel, a cork board, a chalkboard, and a presentation board. At least one resilient shim may be positionable between the wall and a rear portion of the at least one panel. In another embodiment, the kit includes an upper rail, a bottom rail, a plurality of stiles, a plurality of raised panels, and at least one hook-and-loop fastener for releasably attaching the rails to the wall.

    • A method and apparatus for marking places for installation of fasteners. An object to be mounted on a mounting surface has a receptacle on the back thereof for receiving a fastener. This receptacle has at least a portion thereof which is generally T-shaped in cross-section. The receptacle has a first pair of walls extending from the back, this first pair of walls are spaced apart by a first distance. A second pair of walls in the receptacle are spaced farther from the back than the first pair of walls and are a second distance apart, the second distance being greater than the first distance. The marking device, which is generally T-shaped, has a stem portion disposed along a first axis. The stem portion is narrower than the first distance of the receptacle and a head portion of the marking device is sized to fit in the receptacle between the second pair of walls of the receptacle. The head portion of the marking device is narrower than the second distance along a second transverse axis to said first axis whereby the head can slide between the second pair of walls and the head portion has at least a part which is wider than the second distance along a third axis. The third axis extends through and is transverse to both the first axis and the second axis of the T-shaped marking device head whereby this head portion can be wedged against the second walls of the receptacle, thereby holding the marking device in place while the mark is made on a mounting surface. This is done with stem and of the marking device when the object is pushed against the mounting surface in the place where the object is desired to be mounted on such mounting surface.

    • A miterless molding corner piece is adaptable for the formation of either rounded inside or outside corners, and may also be adapted for use with cornice, crown, baseboard or other molding types. The corner piece provides a curving segment having either an inside or an outside curve. The segment provides a surface which is sized and shaped to uniformly contact the surface of portions of the first and second wall surfaces and the rounded wall corner. The rounded wall corner may form either a square inside (90 degree) or a square outside (270 degree) corner, but may be almost any angle from less than 90 to more than 270 degrees. Opposed top and bottom surfaces are adjacent to the inside surface. In a cornice or crown application, the top surface is adjacent to the ceiling. In a baseboard molding application, the bottom surface is adjacent to the floor. In a preferred version, first and second straight segments extend from first and second ends, respectively, of the curving segment. The straight segments are sized to make a seamless connection with the first and second molding segments covering the first and second wall surfaces. The curving segment and first and second straight segments each define a profiled surface which is styled to match the profiled surfaces of the first and second molding segments.
