    • An adjusting device for adjusting the length of a blank for a forging machine is provided. The device includes a cutter mounted on a support; an adjustment seat disposed movably on the support; a stop member fixed to the adjustment seat to stop and abut against an end of a rod-shaped material; a drive unit mounted on the support to move the adjustment seat so as to change the position of the stop member for adjustment of the length of the blank; and at least one fluid pressure-operated fixing unit associated with the adjustment seat. The fixing unit immobilizes the adjustment seat by abutting against the support when the fixing unit is pressurized, or permits the adjustment seat to move when the fixing unit is de-pressurized.

    • A wall has a fixed support plate and a die face. A transfer housing and an air cylinder have a cylindrical rod horizontally secured to the support plate. The housing and air cylinder are laterally reciprocable upon the rod. Fingers have lower free ends for receiving a workpiece to be cold forged and delivering the workpiece to a die. The fingers have an upper follower. The follower is vertically reciprocable to move the fingers between an expanded orientation for releasing the workpiece and a contracted orientation for retaining the workpiece.

    • A forging machine includes a housing unit fixed on a machine bed and having opposite first and second side portions. A workpiece-holding mechanism and a cutting mechanism are disposed on the first side portion of the housing unit, and are driven by a first driving device which is activated by a second driving device that drives a holder-opening mechanism disposed on the second side portion of the housing unit. An outer shield is disposed to cover the housing unit. A platform is disposed outside the outer shield, and is adjacent to the holder-opening mechanism such that a technician can stand thereon to monitor the forging operation. The workpiece-holding mechanism has a plurality of holders that do not move between a forging module and the platform.

    • A transport system, particularly for forming machines for cold forming or warm forming, has a holding rail with gripper devices which are each separately controlled by way of servomotors. The transmissions provided for the force transmission between the servomotor and the clamping jaws of the gripper device can be self-locking, but transmit independently thereof the rotating movement of the respective servomotor continuously to the clamping jaws which therefore swivel. For a better control or automatic control of the gripper devices, these transmissions can be provided with sensors for detecting the force and/or the position.

    • A method of operating a forging press having a plurality of tool stages between which workpieces are advanced in succession. Each tool has two identical dies with a center-to-center spacing of half the stroke of a transporter for advancing the workpieces from stage to stage so that in each stage during each forging stroke of the press only one die is in contact with the workpiece while the other die is unused and in the next working stroke, the unused die engages the workpiece and the previously used die is unused. The result is a minimization of the contact time of workpieces with any given die and hence an increase in the life of the dies for a given press output or enhanced output of the press with equal or reduced die wear.

The operation of transporting, from one forming station (U1, U2, U3) to the adjacent forming station (U2, U3, U4), a workpiece (W2, W3) seized by tongs with pairs of interacting tong grippers (130, 140) and the operation of moving the tongs back take place by the transverse transporting tube (2) moving back and forth. The tong displacement can be adapted to the workpieces (W2, W3) by using tong modules (12a, 12b, 12c) with tongs with suitable leverages.
