    • A foot operated data entry pad has a plurality of foot buttons. The foot buttons are used to enter data values—e.g., numbers or symbols separately or in combination. Each button is capable of entering different data values, preferably depending on the length of time that it is pressed or on the number of times that it is pressed in succession. A small controller may be included to allow the user to control the computer's pointer, allowing the user to switch between data entry fields, as with a mouse. An automated voice system, or other audible and/or visual indicator system, may also be included to help the user keep track of the data value as it changes and is entered. Various embodiments are capable of entering a variety of alphanumeric data rather than a simple binary-type data set, such as yes/no or on/off, or instructions, such as a joystick used with a flight simulator program. Multiple data entry pads may optionally be used in conjunction.

    • The present invention relates to a footswitch which contains all operating elements of an ultrasonic dental scaling system. The footswitch incorporates the circuitry for controlling the frequency of the dental scaling tip and can also provide water and light which is fed to a remote head located either on the dentist or hygienist or on the dental chair adjacent the patient, thereby eliminating the need for a control unit on the counter top in the treatment room. The consolidation of the entirety of the control circuitry in the footswitch eliminates messy cable tangles and because it services a remote head located adjacent the patient allows the handpiece control cable to be shortened, thus lightening the strain on the technician and permitting easier and more efficient dental scaling to be accomplished.

    • The present invention relates to a foot control for the operation of, in particular, medical and dental equipment or control devices with at least one pushbutton. In order to be able to satisfy requirements from different areas of application and users' individual wishes, the foot control provides connection between at least two pushbuttons by a web formed from the housing or from the housing and a base plate. The width of such web is at most equal to the length of the pushbutton, and may be detachably connected in the foot control. Furthermore, the axis of rotation of at least one pushbutton is disposed approximately in a position to be aligned with the extension of the axis of the lower leg of a user, and the pressing force to be applied to operate the pushbutton can be varied by means of detachable springs under the pushbutton cap, the position of which springs can be changed.

    • Foot controller apparatus is characterized by providing for remote foot control by a minimum size foot pedal device of the flow of compressed air to an air driven dental handpiece or the like without the necessity of bulky air lines passing through or the incorporation of complicated electrical or mechanical mechanisms in the foot pedal device, as follows. An outwardly biased, depressible foot pedal device includes a diaphragm therein for forming an air sealed chamber which reduces in volume upon depression of the foot pedal device and conveys an air flow through an elongate tube to a diaphragm operated, air modulating, regulator valve positioned away from the foot pedal device and in the compressed air conduit leading to the dental handpiece for pneumatically operating the valve to control the flow of compressed air to the dental handpiece for driving same. The apparatus may also preferably include a diaphragm operated electrical switch mechanism electrically connected with electrically operated valves in chip air and coolant water conduits to the handpiece and with the foot pedal air tube for being pneumatically operated by the foot pedal device for controlling the flow of chip air and coolant water through the dental handpiece.
