    • A heat-sensitive recording material in which dispersion stability of a color-developing compound or a film improving compound contained in the heat-sensitive recording material can be improved, and images which have uniform image quality and which are excellent in transparency, glossiness, and light-fastness can be formed with high color-developing sensitivity. There is provided a heat-sensitive recording material comprising a support, a heat-sensitive recording layer which is provided on the support and contains at least two types of compounds which react with each other so as to develop color by heating imagewise, and a protective layer in this order, wherein at least one of the layers contains the compound represented by the following formula (I). This compound is preferably contained in the same layer which contains a microcapsule or a latex: R—(S—P)n  (I) wherein R represents a hydrophobic group or a hydrophobic polymer, P represents a polymer including at least one of structural units A, B, and C as further defined herein, and having a polymerization degree which ranges from 10 to 3500, and n represents 1 or 2.

    • The coating method contains a spraying step in which a paint is sprayed at least on a coating substrate extending in an upward and downward direction to a film thickness thicker than causing sags of the sprayed paint. The coating substrate on which the paint is sprayed is rotated about the horizontal axis while the sprayed paint is dried until it does not sag any more. The coating apparatus includes a carriage conveying the coating substrate arranged to run along the conveying direction, and the carriage is provided with a supporting base for supporting the coating substrate rotatively about the horizontal axis. One embodiment for rotating the substrate supported by the supporting base is a spring that is disposed on the carriage to rotate the substrate by means of a restoring force produced by the spring. On the passage for conveying the carriage is disposed a force storing mechanism for storing the restoring force in the spring that released the restoring force. Another embodiment therefor is a combination of a chain disposed along the conveying passage for the carriage with a sprocket disposed on the carriage. The sprocket is engageable with the chain and operatively coupled to the coating substrate. By disposing the chain in a fixed manner, on the one hand, the substrate is caused to rotate as the carriage is being conveyed. By dividing the chain, on the other, the substrate is caused to rotate while the conveyance of the carriage is suspended.

    • A process for forming an image which comprises heating a light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least a light-sensitive silver halide, a binder and a dye releasing redox compound which is reductive to the light-sensitive silver halide and capable of releasing a hydrophilic dye upon reaction with the light-sensitive silver halide by heating, after imagewise exposure or simultaneously with imagewise exposure, in a substantially water-free condition in the presence of a compound represented by the formula (A): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent or divalent aliphatic group; R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which may be the same or different from each other, each represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic group or an aromatic group; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be taken together to form a heterocyclic ring; R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be taken together to form a heterocyclic ring; and n represents 1 or 2, to imagewise form a mobile dye is disclosed.
