    • An ignition device for an internal combustion engine comprises an ignition signal generator whose output signal has a magnitude corresponding to the engine rpms and is in synchronism therewith, a d.c. bias circuit 3 having a predetermined construction and component parameter values for superimposing a d.c. bias voltage on the ignition signal, a threshold setting circuit for determining a threshold level voltage, a comparator 2b having a first input terminal for receiving a signal obtained by superimposing the ignition signal and the d.c. bias voltage and a second input terminal for receiving the threshold level voltage to thereby generate an output having an inverse level in response to the magnitude of the input voltages inputted to the input terminals, and a switching circuit 4 for controlling a primary current to an ignition coil in response to the output of the comparison circuit. The threshold level voltage at the time of supplying the primary current to the ignition coil is determined by a circuit including a plurality of components having the same component parameter values as corresponding components in the d.c. bias circuit.

    • To obtain a knock control apparatus for internal-combustion engine having a function of judging whether or not the causes for failure have been solved for returning to normal knock control at the time of the solution, and capable of easily judging failure even in a failure mode in which it is difficult to raise the filter value and it is difficult to judge the failure. The knock detection apparatus for an internal combustion engine comprises an integration circuit for integrating (charging) the vibratory component superimposed on the ionic current and a discharge circuit for discharging a predetermined amount of charge from the integrated charge. The threshold value is self-adjusted by a balance of charge/discharge between the integration circuit and the discharge circuit.

    • A knock control apparatus for suppressing knock event in an internal combustion engine by correcting a control quantity such as ignition timing for the engine while evading erroneous knock decision and erroneous knock control when a spark plug of the engine is in a sooting state.     • An LCDI-type ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes first and second capacitors connected to an ignition coil and a voltage source for generating a charging voltage for the capacitors. The first capacitor is for producing an initial discharge of a spark plug, and the second capacitor is for lengthening the discharge of the spark plug after discharge has been initiated by the first capacitor. In one form of the invention, the second capacitor is charged only after the first capacitor has been charged by the voltage source to a prescribed voltage sufficient to produce a suitable discharge of the spark plug. As a result, even when the engine is operating at a high rotational speed and the time between consecutive firings of the engine is small, an adequate ignition voltage can be obtained. In another form of the invention, the charging voltage(s) of one or both of the capacitors is or are varied in accordance with the one or more engine operating conditions. Each charging voltage can be controlled to the minimum necessary value based on the present engine operating conditions.
