    • A continuous V-belt transmission comprising: a primary pulley and a secondary pulley individually including two sheaves supported on shafts and made axially movable relative to each other; a belt made to run on the two pulleys; mechanical actuators individually including first members and second members for moving the movable sheaves of the two pulleys on the basis of the relative rotations of the two members: and pressure regulating mechanisms for applying an axial force corresponding to a transmission torque to at least one of the pulleys. In an unshifted state, the rotations of the pulleys are transmitted from the externally threaded portions integrated with the movable sheaves to the carriers of the planetary gear mechanisms so that they are transmitted through the ring gears to toe internally threaded portions on the basis of the sun gears being stopped. At this time, the externally threaded portions and the internally threaded portions are rotated integrally with the pulleys at the same r.p.m. If the sun gears are rotated through the shafts by the shift motor, the externally threaded portions and the internally threaded portions are rotated relative to each other to effect the shifting operation. At this time, the stroke of a ball screw unit is caused to match the stroke of the movable sheaves by non-circular gears.

    • An endless transmission belt for use in continuously variable transmissions of the chain type with a number of link plates interconnected in an endless manner. The belt has blocks spaced along the length of the belt, pins spaced along the length of the belt and engaging the blocks, and link plates arranged in sets and pins, each of the link plates having a single opening formed therein. A plurality of sets of the link plates are interconnected by the pins in an endless manner. Each link plate has horizontal portions formed in such a manner as to continue with the side end faces, thereby defining the opening, via rounded portions for contacting the pins, and first and second notches are respectively formed in the upper and lower interior edges of the horizontal portions partially defining the opening. By virtue of this arrangement, stress received by the end faces of the rounded portions of each link plate is dispersed, thereby reducing the concentration of stress in any particular portions of the link plate.

    • An endless transmission belt of the invention includes a plurality of sets of link plates and a plurality of pin pairs, each pair of pins linking one end of one set of link plates to an adjacent end of another set of link plates. A plurality of blocks are mounted on the link plates and extend around the circumference of the belt. Each of the blocks has a pin engagement groove defined by a circumferential contact surface for engaging a pin in the running direction of the belt, an opening and a pair of side walls each extending from the circumferential contact surface to the opening. One of side walls provides a radial contact surface for a pin. Each of the pins has a transverse cross-section defined in part by (1) a rocking surface for contact with its paired pin, (2) a first curved surface for radial contact with a sidewall of the pin engagement groove and (3) a second curved surface for contacting the circumferential surface of a block and the link plates. The dimensions of the radial contact surface of the pin engagement groove and the dimensions of the surfaces of each pin are selected to minimize, where the belt passes over a pulley, the difference between (1) .DELTA.r which is the total of the displacement of the points of contact between paired pins as a result of the pins of a pair rolling with respect to each other, the displacement of the pins per se and the relative displacement between the pairs of pins and the blocks due to their rotation relative to one another and (2) .DELTA.r.sub.i which is the ideal .DELTA.r, from the viewpoint of variation in belt speed, vibration and noise.

The belt drive continuously-variable speed transmission mechanism has an input variable-pitch pulley assembly and an output variable-pitch pulley assembly. The hydraulic control circuit includes a regulator valve, a throttle pressure valve, a reduction ratio detecting valve, a reduction ratio control valve and a reduction ratio control mechanism. The reduction ratio control valve has an axially slidable spool and two pressure chambers formed in the valve body thereof at both axial ends of the spool respectively. The reduction ratio control mechanism includes conduits for conducting the working fluid of a throttle pressure to the pressure chambers of the reduction ratio control valve and two solenoid valves adapted to drain the corresponding pressure chambers, respectively, when actuated.
