摘要： An electrical separator for a lithium battery is composed of a porous carrier coated with a porous inorganic nonelectroconductive material and a porous shutdown layer on the porous inorganic nonelectroconductive coating. The shutdown layer melts at a selected temperature defined by layer composition. Upon melting, the pores of the inorganic layer are closed. Such an electrical separator provides a lithium battery of improved safety. A method to produce the electrical separator is provided.

摘要： The present invention concerns separator-electrode assemblies for lithium batteries and also a process for their production.The separator-electrode assemblies (SEAs) comprise a porous electrode useful as an electrode, ie. The separator electrode assembly (SEA) is characterized in that it has an inorganic separator layer comprising at least two fractions of metal oxide particles different from each other in their average particle size and/or in the metal, and an electrode whose active mass particles are bonded together and to the current collector by inorganic adhesive.The separator-electrode assembly of the invention has the advantage that it is simple to manufacture as one component and that distinctly higher temperatures can be employed in production than in the production of conventional separator-electrode assemblies, since the electrode does not contain heat-sensitive organic materials.

摘要： The present invention relates to flexible ceramic membranes which, depending on embodiment, are useful as separators for batteries, especially lithium batteries, and also a process for their production.Ceramic or hybridic membranes have the disadvantage that, whatever the level of flexibility already achieved, they tend to crumble off the ceramic coating on bending. This is prevented by the present membranes, which comprise, on and in a polymeric nonwoven, a solidified ceramic coating which is constructed from two fractions of metal oxide particles of different size and which adheres to the polymeric nonwoven through a network constructed by two different adhesion promoters.

摘要： The present invention relates to electrical separators for batteries, especially lithium batteries, having a shutdown mechanism and also a process for their production. An electrical separator is a separator which is used in batteries and other arrangements in which electrodes have to be separated from each other while maintaining ion conductivity for example. Safety is very important in lithium batteries, since in contrast to other types of battery (Pb, NiCd, NiMeH) the solvent for the electrolyte is not water but a flammable solvent, for example organic carbonates. This is why it is absolutely necessary for a separator for lithium cells to possess a suitable shutdown mechanism and at the same time for it not to be able to melt down. This object is achieved by an electrical separator according to the present invention that comprises a shutdown layer which is formed from a porous sheetlike structure. Since the separator further comprises a porous inorganic (ceramic) layer on a carrier, the cells cannot melt down as a result of a completely melted separator.

The inventive composite material contains essentially a porous, permeable support, another constituent having been solidified on and in or on or in said support. Said other constituent essentially contains metallic compounds with elements of the 3rd to the 6th main group. The constituent is solidified to, on or in the support by heating a suspension of the constituent suspended in a metal oxide sol applied on and in or on or in the support. The invention hereby provides a means of producing a permeable composite material in very mild conditions, either by heating strongly for a short period or by heating more moderately for a longer period. The resulting permeable composite material is excellently suited to applications in filtration and membrane technology.
