摘要： A thermal actuator is taught for a micro-electromechanical device. The thermal actuator includes a base element, a cantilevered element extending from the base element and normally residing in a first position. The cantilevered element includes a first layer constructed of a dielectric material having a low thermal coefficient of expansion and a second layer attached to the first layer, the second layer comprising intermetallic titanium aluminide. A pair of electrodes are connected to the second layer to allow an electrical current to be passed through the second layer to thereby cause the temperature of the second layer to rise, the cantilevered element deflecting to a second position as a result of the temperature rise of the second layer and returning to the first position when the electrical current through the second layer is ceased and the temperature thereof decreases. The thermal actuator has particular application in an inkjet device wherein a series of such inkjet devices form an inkjet printhead.

摘要： A catcher assembly, which is adapted to catch non-print droplets while not catching print droplets, includes a section defining an ink collection chamber and an impact surface positioned to intercept non-print droplets and to direct the intercepted non-print droplets to the ink collection chamber. The section further defines at least one other surface that is subject to undesirable ink build up. An ink flow path extends from the other surface to the ink collection chamber, whereby ink that has undesirably built up on the other surface will tend to flow to the ink collection chamber. The ink flow path may be a hole through the section. The hole extends from the other surface to the ink collection chamber. The ink flow path may further include a slot in the section extending between the hole and the other surface to provide a path for ink to flow from the other surface to the hole and then through the hole to the ink collection chamber. The ink flow path may be formed by a backing plate spaced from the section to form a conduit extending from the other surface to the ink collection chamber.

摘要： A method of continuously ejecting liquid includes providing a liquid ejection system that includes a substrate and an orifice plate affixed to the substrate. Portions of the substrate define a liquid chamber. The orifice plate includes a MEMS transducing member that extends over at least a portion of the liquid chamber. A compliant membrane is positioned in contact with the MEMS transducing member. The compliant membrane includes an orifice. Liquid is provided under a pressure sufficient to eject a continuous jet of the liquid through the orifice located in the compliant membrane of the orifice plate by a liquid supply. A drop of liquid is caused to break off from the liquid jet by selectively actuating the MEMS transducing member which causes a portion of the compliant membrane to be displaced relative to the liquid chamber.

摘要： A continuous liquid ejection system includes a substrate and an orifice plate affixed to the substrate. Portions of the substrate define a liquid chamber. The orifice plate includes a MEMS transducing member. A first portion of the MEMS transducing member is anchored to the substrate. A second portion of the MEMS transducing member extends over at least a portion of the liquid chamber and is free to move relative to the liquid chamber. A compliant membrane is positioned in contact with the MEMS transducing member. A first portion of the compliant membrane covers the MEMS transducing member and a second portion of the compliant membrane is anchored to the substrate. The compliant membrane includes an orifice. A liquid supply provides a liquid to the liquid chamber under a pressure sufficient to eject a continuous jet of the liquid through the orifice located in the compliant membrane of the orifice plate. The MEMS transducing member is selectively actuated to cause a portion of the compliant membrane to be displaced relative to the liquid chamber to cause a drop of liquid to break off from the liquid jet.
