摘要： A recording and/or reproducing apparatus for a recording medium includes a head unit for recording on and/or reading out data from a recording medium having a data recording area for data recording/reproduction and a management data recording area for recording management data for management of the data recorded in said data recording area, and a first storage unit for storing data read out from the recording medium by the head unit during reproduction from the recording medium. During recording on the recording medium, the first storage unit temporarily stores recording data supplied to the head unit and the management data read out from the recording medium. The apparatus also includes a second storage unit for storing the management data read out from the recording medium and a control unit for controlling the head unit based on the management data stored in the first storage unit for effecting recording on or reproduction from the recording medium. During recording the data on the recording medium, the control unit causes data stored on the first storage unit to be temporarily accumulated and to be subsequently supplied to the head unit for performing a recording operation. During reproduction of data from the recording medium, the control unit causes data read out by the head unit to be temporarily stored in the first storage unit. The control unit performs an editing operation on data recorded in the data storage area of the recording medium based on the management data stored in the first storage unit for updating the management data stored in the first storage unit. During cancellation of the editing operation, the control unit causes the management data stored in the second storage unit to be transferred to the first storage unit. If it is desired to cancel the editing operation, the control unit causes the management data stored in the second memory unit to be transferred to the first storage unit.

摘要： A backlight includes a light source and one or more light recycling films. The light source generates light that exits the light source with an angular exit distribution. The light recycling films are oriented in relation to the light source so that the prism peaks of the recycling films are oriented away from the light source. The recycling films have a range of optimal incident angles that allow light to pass through the recycling films without recycling. The components of the light source, the characteristics of the recycling films, or both, are configured to control the overlap between the exit distribution of the light source and the optimal incident angle range of the recycling films.

摘要： An image display element includes: a front panel; a back panel opposite thereto; a plurality of pixels arranged between both the panels; and plural electrodes for controlling the pixels. The panels are bonded with the pixels and the electrodes interposed therebetween, and the electrodes are connected to a driving circuit via metal film wires. The back panel is divided so as to expose electrode terminals, and a groove part V-shaped in cross section is formed at the divided portion. The metal film wires are formed on the top surface of the back panel, and the electrode terminals and the metal film wires are connected by a conductive paste coated along the tilt surfaces forming the groove part. Partitions are disposed between the adjacent electrode terminals at the bottom of the groove part.

摘要： When a short-circuit failure of any of switch portions (13) including switch elements (11) and parallel-connected feedback diodes (12) of an inverter circuit (7) is detected during the operation of a motor (1), a switch portion (13) where the short-circuit failure has occurred is checked for whether it is on the positive polarity side or the negative polarity side. The switch elements (11) are so controlled that all the switch portions (13) on the same polarity side as where the short-circuit has occurred are brought into a conducted state and all the others are disconnected. This prevents a large electric current from flowing into each switch portion of the inverter circuit without requiring any switch to block the power distribution between a motor and the inverter circuit when a short-circuit failure of the switch portion of the inverter circuit occurs.
