摘要： A stabilizer for use in surgical procedures such as coronary bypass surgery includes an elongate, rigid handle, a neck at the end of the handle, a base leg connected to the end of the neck, and first and second spaced, generally flat fingers that are disposed generally parallel with each other and which lie in a plane disposed at an angle from the longitudinal axis of the handle. The fingers can be used to press against the surface of the heart to stabilize it during surgery. In another embodiment, the handle is in the form of a flexible member that can be adjusted in a variety of positions. In either embodiment, the attachment between the fingers and the heart can be enhanced by providing serrations for the underside of the fingers, or by making the fingers hollow and forming a plurality of openings in the underside of the fingers in order to apply a vacuum to the underside of the fingers.

摘要： A surgical suit includes a hood fitted loosely about the user's head and a gown fitted loosely about the user's body. The hood has a large visor through which the user can see. A housing is spaced above the user's head and underneath the hood. The housing carries a substantial portion of the weight of the hood. The housing is supported above the user's head by means of vertically extending support rods that are connected to a backpack. A fan is disposed in the housing, as well as an optional thermoelectric module. An exhaust fan is included as part of the backpack. The fan in the housing causes air to be drawn through a filter and then flowed past the user's face. The fan in the backpack causes air to be drawn downwardly from around the user's upper body and exhausted from the gown through a filter.

摘要： A device for capping and uncapping a hypodermic needle includes a body portion having an opening therein through which the cap of a hypodermic needle may be inserted and removed. The body portion has a base that can be attached to a surface by an adhesive layer or by hook and loop fasteners. The body portion includes a conical helix having screw threads that engage the end of the cap upon rotation of the cap therein. Because the cap is mechanically secured by the helix, the needle can be removed or inserted into the cap while the cap is retained in place. The body portion is made of an inexpensive, resilient foam material.
