摘要： In a storage system including plural source storage devices, a target storage device selects which source storage device to accept a copy request from the target storage device so as to minimize the load on the entire system. The system calculates first and second load values for job loads being processed. System load values for the system are derived from job load value of a specific data, and respective load values for first and second source storage devices. The system compares the system load values to select a storage device to provide the data copy so as to minimize the load on the entire system.

摘要： A backup method is provided for a file system for managing hierarchical storage including one or more storage media on a computer system including one or more computers. Each of the one or more storage media includes a data part which is separated from an index and on which updated information is appended and kept. Each of a plurality of pieces of data within the file system is managed to be migrated to at least any of the one or more storage media. The backup method includes backing up metadata of the plurality of pieces of data migrated within the file system; and backing up the index of each of the one or more storage media to which the plurality of pieces of data have been migrated, substantially at the same time point as the metadata.

The controller is configured to create one or more tape-managed partitions in the disk cache, each of the one or more tape-managed partitions being configured to store data that is subject to hierarchical storage management (HSM). The controller is also configured to create a premigration queue configured to service premigration data for all of the one or more tape-managed partitions. Moreover, the controller is configured to receive a premigration delay value for a first tape-managed partition, the premigration delay value defining a time period that elapses prior to queuing the premigration data for the first tape-managed partition to the premigration queue. The premigration delay value is based on a volume creation time. Other systems, methods, and computer program products are described in accordance with more embodiments.

摘要： A method for avoiding inode number conflict during metadata restoration at a restoration location is provided. The method includes receiving metadata for a first file including an inode containing an initial internal inode number and a directory entry containing an external inode number, determining an allocation status of the initial internal inode number at the restoration location, identifying an available internal inode number to be allocated to the first file, updating the initial internal inode number in the inode for the first file with the available internal inode number, registering the available internal inode number and the external inode number in an inode mapping table indicating correspondence between the available internal inode number and the external inode number, and restoring the inode based on the available internal inode number.

摘要： In one embodiment, a system includes a processor and logic configured to create a backup copy of data stored to one or more production clusters and store the backup copy to one or more disaster recovery (DR) clusters. Moreover, the logic is configured to establish a time-zero in the DR family and create a snapshot of each backup copy stored to the one or more DR clusters. Each snapshot represents data stored to the one or more DR clusters at the time-zero, and each snapshot is a point-in-time flash copy of at least a user data portion of all virtual tapes of the one or more DR clusters with the proviso that the snapshot does not include a metadata portion of the virtual tapes. The logic is further configured to share a point-in-time data consistency at the time-zero among all clusters within the DR family.

摘要： A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for asynchronous replication in a hierarchical storage management integrated storage system. For a given file to be replicated from a primary storage system to a remote storage system, the primary storage system accesses the remote storage system to determine file existence and migration status at the remote storage system for the given file. Responsive to the primary storage system determining that the given file exists and has been migrated from first tier storage to second tier storage at the remote storage system, the primary storage system determines a first performance penalty for file recall and a second performance penalty for sending excess data from the primary storage system to the remote storage system. Responsive to the primary storage system determining that the first performance penalty is greater than the second performance penalty, the primary storage system sends whole file data for the given file to the remote storage system to replicate the given file at the remote storage system.
