    • A liquid crystal display element includes an active matrix substrate; a color filter substrate; a sealing material for attaching the active matrix substrate and the color filter substrate with a predetermined gap maintained therebetween; and liquid crystal injected in the gap between the active matrix substrate and the color filter substrate. The active matrix substrate includes a pixel electrode comprising a reflective conductive material; a switching element connected to the pixel electrode; a gate signal line receiving a driving signal for driving the switching element; and a source signal line receiving a display signal. A plurality of said pixel electrodes and a plurality of said switching elements are arranged in a matrix, and a plurality of said gate signal lines and a plurality of said source signal lines are arranged so as to intersect each other. The color filter substrate includes a color filter having a plurality of color layers corresponding to a plurality of colors; a display region; and a frame region positioned on the outer periphery of the display region, the plurality of color layers being formed in the display region and in the frame region.

    • In a liquid crystal display device, auxiliary lines are formed under pixel electrodes so as to be parallel to signal or scanning lines. The auxiliary lines are connected to the signal or scanning lines at one point for each pixel. This permits a voltage to be applied to a signal or scanning line if a disconnection defect occurs in the signal or scanning line. The auxiliary line is connected to the signal or scanning line at opposite sides of the defect to form a circuit around the defect. Moreover, if a leakage defect occurs at a crossing point between the scanning line and the signal line, the signal or scanning line may be cut off at both sides of the scanning or signal line, and the auxiliary line forms a circuit that avoids the line leak. Thus, a voltage may be applied to the signal or scanning line by the auxiliary line.

    • A liquid crystal display device is formed by arranging a plurality of scanning lines 3.sub.1, 3.sub.2, . . . to which scanning signals are successively applied and a plurality of signal lines 4.sub.1, 4.sub.2, . . . to which data signals are successively applied to intersect at right angles. Mounted in the vicinity of each of the intersections of the scanning lines 3.sub.1, 3.sub.2, . . . and signal lines 4.sub.1, 4.sub.2, . . . are a TFT 5 electrically connected to both of the lines, and a pixel electrode 6 connected to the TFT 5. A common electrode is placed to face the pixel electrode 6 with liquid crystals 2 therebetween. One of electrodes of a pixel capacitance formed by the pixel electrode 6 is connected to a common line 9 for supplying a common signal to the common electrode 7. A dummy scanning line 3.sub.0 for forming a capacitance is arranged outside of the scanning line 3.sub.1 located at the outermost position on a scanning start side of scanning signal. In this structure, since an equal parasitic capacitance is generated in the pixels irrespectively of their positions, it is possible to eliminate defects, such as deterioration of display quality due to an appearance of a bright line in particular pixels.
