    • A method of transmitting data in a wireless communication system is provided. A machine-to-machine (M2M) device transmits a first ranging request message including a M2M short message service (SMS) request indicating that the M2M device has a M2M SMS to transmit, and receives a first ranging response message including a M2M SMS response, a basic connection identifier (CID) and a temporary CID timer. If the M2M SMS request is accepted by a base station, the M2M device transmits a second ranging request message including the M2M SMS based on the basic CID, and receives a second ranging response message including a M2M SMS confirmation indicating whether the reception of the M2M SMS is successful or not by the base station.

    • The present invention relates to a wireless access system, and more particularly, to a method of transmitting/receiving a paging message by minimizing power consumption of a mobile station. A method of performing paging for a mobile station in idle mode comprises receiving a deregistration command message including a paging cycle, a paging offset and a paging group identifier and if moving away into a different cell area, performing a location update with a target base station of the different cell area. Preferably, the location update is performed only if moving away into an initially different cell area but is not performed if moving into another different cell area.

    • A method of monitoring a paging message in a wireless communication system, which is performed by a mobile station operating in an idle mode including a paging listening interval and a paging unavailable interval, includes receiving a segment of the paging message comprising a plurality of segments during the paging listening interval, the received segment of the paging message including an extension flag indicating whether a remaining segment of the paging message exists; monitoring at least one subsequent subframe or frame to receive the remaining segment of the paging message while the mobile station remains awake if the extension flag indicates that the remaining segment of the paging message exists; and entering the paging unavailable interval if the mobile station is not paged after receiving all segments of the paging message.

    • A method of scanning cells based on location based service (LBS) information and selecting heterogeneous cells is provided. The method includes, at a mobile station, setting a supplementary field of a registration request message and notifying a base station whether or not handover based on location information is supported, while performing a network entry process, generating location based service (LBS) information while scanning is performed using the coordinates of base stations of an LBS advertisement message received from the base station, if channel quality measured by the mobile station is less than a threshold value, including the generated LBS information in a scanning report message and transmitting the scanning report message to the base station, receiving recommended base station information of the heterogeneous cells selected based on the LBS information from the base station, and performing the scanning on the basis of the recommended base station information. By this configuration, it is possible to reduce a time consumed for the scanning performed by the mobile station and reduce the latency of cell selection/reselection/handover, by reducing the number of target cells which will be scanned by the mobile station on the basis of the LBS information of the mobile station in the scanning process which is performed before the cell selection/reselection/handover between the heterogeneous cells.
