    • An SO DIMM connector includes an insulative housing (10) defining an elongated slot (12) along a longitudinal direction thereof. A plurality of passageways (14) are formed by two sides of the slot (12) in the housing (10). A plurality of contacts are received within the corresponding passageways with contact portions extending into the slot (12). A pair of supporting platform (16) are formed at two opposite ends of the housing (10). A pair of latch devices (22) are disposed on the corresponding supporting platforms (16), respectively. Each latch device (22) includes a plastic member (24) and a metal member (26) commonly deflectable with regard to the housing (10). A substrate module (100) is inserted into the slot (12). The module (100) defines a pair of notches (101) in two side portions and a pair of grounding pads (102, 106) respectively on both surfaces (104, 108) thereof around each of said notches (101). The plastic member (24) defines a locking protrusion (28) and a restriction protrusion (30) respectively abutting against the upper surface (104) and received within the notch (101) of the module (100), while the metal member (26) defines a pair of grounding tangs (44, 46) respectively engaged with the corresponding grounding pads (102, 106) on two opposite surfaces (104, 108) of the module (100).

    • A connector for printed circuit boards. Electrical connections are made between two printed boards through flex circuits which have contact pads pressed against contact pads on each of the printed circuit boards. Sufficient, uniform pressure is maintained on the contacts through the use of compressible tubes behind the contact pads on the flex circuits. The compressible tubes are spring biased towards the flex circuits. When a circuit board is engaged in the connector, it compresses the compressible tube and the spring biasing mechanism, thereby generating sufficient contact force. The connector is easy to manufacture in a variety of sizes because its pieces are modular. Many of the pieces are of uniform cross section, facilitating use of low cost extrusion operations. An embodiment is disclosed in which one printed circuit board is pivoted into contact with the contact pads.

    • Disclosed is a card edge connector which includes an insulative housing comprising a body and opposed perpendicular arms. The body of the housing has a card receiving side having a longitudinal groove. This groove has opposed lateral first and second sides and each of said first and second sides has at least one first and second contact receiving opening. There is also at least one recess in the card receiving side of the body communicating with said first aperture in the first lateral side of the groove. There is also at least one recess in the opposed side of the housing body communicating with the second opening in the groove. A first contact fixed in the recess in the card receiving side of the body and extends through said first opening into the groove. A second contact is fixed in the recess in said opposed side of the body and extends through said second aperture into the groove. An efficient means of mounting the contacts in the housing and for allowing engagement of a card with the housing is thus provided. Metal inserts are also provided adjacent the perpendicular arms of the housing to provide overstress protection and other advantages.

    • An electrical connector apparatus is provided for electrically coupling a module having an end edge including a keyway and a plurality of conductive pads to a plurality of conductive traces on a mother printed circuit board. The apparatus comprises an insulative housing formed to include an elongated slot for receiving the end edge of the module, a plurality of contacts located in the slot for engaging the conductive pads on the module, and a key formed integrally with the insulative housing. The key has first and second side walls which are formed to include first and second recessed slots, respectively. The apparatus also includes an alignment clip coupled to the key. The alignment clip includes a body portion and first and second spring beams positioned in the first and second slots of the key. The first and second spring beams each have a head portion which extends outwardly from the first and second recessed slots, respectively, and beyond the first and second walls of the key to engage the keyway during insertion of the module into the elongated slot of the housing.

    • A connector assembly for a electrically interconnecting two printed circuit board like members comprises a connector member for being mounted on a first printed circuit board like member. The connector member includes generally parallel-spaced electrical conductors for being electrically connected to electrical circuitry positioned on the first printed circuit board like member when the connector member is mounted on the first printed circuit board like member. The electrical conductors are positioned along at least one side of an opening which extends along the connector member and which is adapted to receive a second printed circuit board like member having electrical circuitry thereon. The connector member and/or the second printed circuit board like member are configured in such a way that the second printed circuit board like member can be rotated relative to the connector member during insertion into and withdrawal from the opening in the connector member without breaking or otherwise damaging the connector member or the second printed circuit board like member. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, an alignment block is mounted on the connector member and is positionable in a slot in the second printed circuit board like member upon insertion of the second printed circuit board like member into the opening in the connector member.

    • An electrical connector is provided for surface mounting along an edge of a circuit board in an edge straddling configuration. The circuit board has a plurality of contact pads spaced along opposite faces of the board near the edge thereof. The connector includes a dielectric housing and a plurality of terminals mounted on the housing with solder tails projecting from the housing generally in two rows to define an elongate board-receiving mouth for receiving the edge of the circuit board. The contact pads are adapted to receive soft solder paste thereon prior to insertion of the board into the mouth between the two rows of solder tails. The solder tails of the terminals are configured for receiving the circuit board at a first angular orientation wherein minimal contact force is effected between the solder tails and the contact pads to prevent any substantial wiping away of the solder paste from the contact pads and a second angular orientation wherein substantial contact force is effected between the solder tails and the contact pads in a direction generally normal to the faces of the circuit board. Therefore, the solder paste remains in an interface area at each contact pad and its respective solder tail.
