    • A radially outward flow turbine having a rotor with nozzles which extend from an inner inlet passage to the rotor periphery with a substantially constant pressure drop per unit length of nozzle, with a first order surface continuity along the surface of each nozzle and with a nozzle profile which allows two-phase flow without substantial lateral acceleration according to the following formula: ##EQU1## The turbine is also illustrated with a second set of nozzles outwardly of the first set included in either the rotor or in a second contrarotating rotor. The rotor in either case vents steam to multiple steam turbine stages while the second set of nozzles receives saturated vapor. The steam turbine stage may be defined by either the first rotor and a stator or the first rotor and a contrarotating rotor.

    • The air motor of the present invention has an air chamber for taking compressed air in a rotor body fitted to a rotary shaft, forms a jet hole opening in the tangential direction of the rotor on the periphery of the rotor, jets compressed air from the jet hole, and gives torque to the rotor by the reaction of the jetted air. An air reservoir is installed between the air chamber and the jet hole which are connected to the air reservoir. When the load of the air motor increases, the speed of the rotor instantaneously decreases. However, the decreased speed immediately increases because a lot of compressed air stored in the air reservoir continuously jets from the jet hole.

    • A turbine power plant comprises a rotor and a stator with chambers arranged at intervals around the outer periphery of the rotor. Nozzles are provided at intervals around the stator and direct working fluid toward the periphery of the rotor. Each chamber comprises an intake opening in the outer periphery of the rotor and an inflow path which extends from the intake opening to a reaction surface. Working fluid entering a chamber passes through the inflow path to impinge upon the reaction surface. The direction of flow is such that work is produced on the rotor producing rotation. At the reaction surface, flow is subdivided into two parts extending into two outflow passages on opposite axial sides of the inflow path. The outflow paths extend to exhaust openings in the outer periphery of the rotor on opposite axial sides of the intake opening. The exiting flow of fluid passes through the outflow paths and exhaust openings toward the stator. Sets of vanes are provided on the stator against which the exhausted working fluid impinges producing a reaction and additional work to rotate the rotor.

    • A novel rotary prime mover is provided having a generally cylindrical casing including an axial air intake, an axial exhaust outlet and bearing means at each circular end thereof to support a longitudinally arranged shaft. A flywheel block is rotatably mounted within the casing on the longitudinally arranged shaft and is arranged intermediate the air inlet and the exhaust outlet. The longitudinal shaft has a fuel inlet passage concentrically bored therethrough. The flywheel block includes at least two balanced diametrically opposed jet reaction engines recessed and secured in a specifically recited manner at the circumferential edge thereof. Each jet reaction engine is of a specified cylindrical construction to provide an adjustable ignition head, having air inlet passages and an ignition device associated therewith, an adjustable exhaust liner, a fuel infeed zone fed by a fuel inlet connected to the fuel inlet passage to feed fuel automatically to a combustion zone, and a source of ignition power connected to the ignition device through the casing. In this way, operation of the jet reaction engines causes powered rotation of the flywheel block, so that power may be taken off the shaft. Thus, there is now provided a simple prime mover having a minimum of moving parts, in which the rotary member, the jet reaction member and the stationary casing are so interrelated as to provide an ultimate efficient engine.

In another embodiment, the inner rotor is immobilized and provided with gas recovery ports on its outer surface by means of which gas in solution may be recovered. This velocity pump reaction turbine configuration is capable of potential energy conversion efficiencies of up to 70%, and is particularly suited for geothermal applications.
