    • A collapsible container for milk cartons has a plate-like base member with first and second spaced parallel edges and third and fourth spaced parallel edges perpendicular to the first and second edges. First and second upper ledges extends upward perpendicularly from the base member along the first and second edges thereof. Third and fourth upper ledges extend upward perpendicularly from the base member along the third and fourth edges thereof. The third and fourth upper ledges are perpendicular to the first and second upper ledges. A first side panel is pivotally mounted in the third and fourth upper ledges next-adjacent the first upper ledge in a manner whereby the first upper ledge prevents the first side panel from falling outward. A second side panel is pivotally mounted in the third and fourth upper ledges next-adjacent the second upper ledge in a manner whereby the second upper ledge prevents the second side panel from falling outward. A third side panel is pivotally mounted in the first and second upper ledges next-adjacent the third upper ledge in a manner whereby the third upper ledge prevents the second side panel from falling outward. A fourth side panel is pivotally mounted in the first and second upper ledges next-adjacent the fourth upper ledge in a manner whereby the fourth upper ledge prevents the fourth side panel from falling outward. The side panels are maintained upright by milk cartons supported on the base member and collapse inward toward the base member in the absence of milk cartons on the base member.

    • A metal reusable barrel for storing and shipping fluids. The barrel is capable of being disassembled after initial use to minimize the space required for transporting the barrel back to the original shipper and also minimize the expense of reconditioning the barrel for reuse. The barrel comprises two barrel halves, each in the shape of a frustum with the larger end open and the smaller end sealingly closed by a circular plate. The open ends of the two barrel halves are sealingly clamped together to form a fully assembled, leak-proof barrel. When the barrel is empty it may be disassembled by detaching the two barrel halves from one another and nesting one inside the other for shipment back to the producer. In their disassembled condition the barrel halves can be easily cleaned and reconditioned because of the accessibility of their interior surfaces, after which they may be reassembled and reused.

    • Two symmetrical, axially separable barrel halves of plastic material are provided at their confronting end faces with peripheral edge beads each forming a set of axially projecting teeth alternating with gaps of like width, the teeth of each half fitting into the gaps of the other. The free ends of the teeth are provided with radially extending bosses forming two annular crenelations separated by a substantially flat ring zone upon the interfitting of the teeth, this zone receiving a broad strap inserted between the two crenelations to hold the barrel halves together. The peripheral edge beads are further provided, radially inwardly of the teeth and gaps, with axially extending tenons and mortises or equivalent tongue-and-groove formations to provide a supplemental bracing effect. The inner strap surface may be correspondingly beveled to exert upon the free tooth ends an elastic biasing force urging the two barrel halves toward each other in the axial direction. The barrel is internally lined with a plastic bag.

    • A portable tank and tank shell are provided and includes a plurality of curved upright panels arranged in end-to-end relation to form a generally circular enclosure. The ends of the panels are releasably connected together by inserting an interlocking member into engagement with parts on the ends of the panels. The panels have an inturned flange near or at their lower edge which is adapted to set on a surface on which the tank is to be erected. This flange serves to hold the configuration of the panels in a rigid curve and the weight of the liquid in the tank acts downwardly on the flange to help hold the panels in place and to generally strengthen the structure. Also, the flange at one end of a panel overlaps the flange on an adjacent panel to facilitate making the connection between the panels. The tank shell thus provided can be lined with a plastic flexible sheet liner. Preferably one end of each panel is provided with a lip which overlies the joint between the panels to maintain the liner out of contact with the joint.

    • Pressure tank apparatus designed for pressure testing various samples must provide a quick and easy manner of mounting the specimen within the tank and of removing it subsequent to the testing procedure. Also, the pressure tanks should be as lightweight as possible consistent with the anticipated extreme pressures. Lightness and strength presently are provided by utilizing two-part tanks each formed with a special merlon-flange type permitting coupling of the two parts to form a sealed tank unit. A series of tanks are used, these tanks being concentrically spaced one from another to provide intervening chambers subjected to progressive pressure conditions permitting the tank walls to be subjected only to the pressure differential of adjacent chambers rather than the full pressure in any one chamber. Consequently, wall thickness and strength can be reduced. Each half of the two-part assembly has a closed end and a substantially cylindrical free end portion, the periphery of which is formed with merlon-type flanges spaced one from another by crenel-type notches. The spacing permits mating of the two parts by inserting the flanges of one part into the notches of the other and the flanges are provided with transverse recesses which, when the parts are mated, cumulatively form an outwardly facing, intermittent, circumferential channel adapted to receive a lock ring. If necessary, a clamping ring maintains the lock ring and an interior seal for the tank is provided by utilizing the interior pressure to press a sealing member tightly against the circumferential intermittent channel surface area.
