    • A guide bar for a chain saw includes a pair of side plates and a center plate disposed therebetween. Each of the side plates includes spray holes through which a liquid can be sprayed. Liquid-conducting tubes are mounted in a longitudinal center slot of the center plate, and outlet ends of the tubes are connected to the spray holes of one of the side plates. Inlet ends of the tubes are connected to fittings mounted in a rear end of the guide bar to enable the tubes to receive liquid from a liquid source. A worn guide bar can be reversed, while still permitting the spraying to be performed. That is, while the guide bar is being reversed, the tubes are removed to enable the fittings to be reversed. Then, the inlet ends of the tubes are reconnected to the fittings, and the outlet ends of the tubes are connected to the spray holes formed in the other side plate.

    • The mechanism is used for rotating a tree-felling implement rotatably connected to a distal end of a boom of a logging vehicle by an implement pivot. The mechanism comprises a first arc-shaped member that extends in a plane perpendicular to the boom plane and is convex with reference to the implement pivot. The first member has a first end rotatably connected to the frame of the implement at a given distance from the implement pivot. A second arc-shaped member, coplanar with the first member, is also convex with reference to the implement pivot. The second member has a first end rotatably connected to the second end of the first member for defining an intermediary junction, and a second end rotatably connected to the distal end of the boom. A hydraulic actuator is mounted on the frame of the implement and has an end rotatably connected to or adjacent to the intermediary junction for rotating the implement during operation of the actuator. The mechanism provides a simple and reliable construction for rotating a tree-felling implement that is capable of rotating the implement with reference to the boom plane in both directions and according to a wide range of angles.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for cutting trees and grinding and mulching tree stumps. The apparatus includes a semi-spherical arcuate shield with a control mount and a foot mount attached to the arcuate shield. A cylindrical drum having cutting teeth mounted on the periphery of the drum is mounted below the arcuate shield such that the arcuate shield covers the upper forward and rearward surfaces of the drum. The drum is preferably mounted a constant radial distance from the arcuate shield. Debris limiting rings are mounted below the arcuate shield on each end of the drum. A belt guard is mounted on each debris limiting ring. An end plate is mounted on each belt guard, enclosing the space between the debris limiting ring, the belt guard, and the end plate. An output shaft extends through the drum and debris limiting rings, rotatably mounted in an end cap on one end of the apparatus and having a pulley mounted on the other end. The pulley engages a belt which engages a shaft above the arcuate shield. A pulley is mounted on the shaft above the arcuate shield to engage a power source, such as a hydraulic motor, to rotate the drum. The control mount and foot mount connect to a self-propelled vehicle, such as a backhoe. The method of the present invention includes grinding the upper portion of a tree trunk with a cylindrical-drum with cutting teeth until substantially all of the tree trunk is cut away, pushing the apparatus against the tree trunk at a point above the ground away portion of the tree trunk until the upper portion of the tree trunk breaks off, grinding the resulting tree stump down to ground level with the cylindrical drum with cutting teeth, and depositing the tree cuttings from the tree stump around the tree stump. Preferably, the apparatus engages the tree trunk at a point that is 90% of the height of the tree trunk.

    • A brushwood clearing machine comprises two mutually adjacent brushwood cutting units rotating in opposite directions about respective parallel axes lying in a generally horizontal plane. The cutting units are elongate and comprise cylindrical surfaces centered on the axes of rotation, and longitudinal brushwood cutting blades mounted on the cylindrical surfaces. The latter opening can be provided with a spout to discharge the cut brushwood material into a container.
