摘要： A metal vapor discharge lamp has an arc tube in which mercury, a rare gas, and at least one luminous metal are enclosed, and an outer tube in which a nitrogen gas is enclosed and which covers the arc tube. The metal members which are provided in the outer tube and which include wiring for supplying power to the arc tube will not react with one of nitrogen and a nitrogen compound in the nitrogen gas atmosphere in the outer tube when the temperature exceeds 350° C. in a steady-state illumination. The use of a metal member such as stainless steel will increase the life of the discharge lamp.

摘要： A gas discharge lamp having a translucent envelope enclosing a light emitting assembly that includes a baffle and an anode separated by one or more spacers made of an electrically insulating material such as ceramic, which are oriented towards a heated cathode to receive electrons emitted therefrom. Each spacer has a front surface, a rear surface, a top surface and a bottom surface including a transverse cavity formed between the front and rear surfaces to permit electrons to flow through. The cavity extends from a first through-hole in the front surface to a second through-hole in the rear surface of the spacer. Further, the cavity includes a gap for allowing conductive materials that may sputter or evaporate from the anode or the baffle to escape from the cavity to prevent short circuiting between the anode and the baffle.

A reflector is arranged to reflect the light produced by the arc into a directional light beam, secondary reflection means being arranged to direct part of the reflected beam so as to compensate for regions which are obscured by the electrodes. 摘要： An integrated reflector lamp includes a sealed envelope enclosing a high pressure gas discharge device. A shell has a rim portion which receives the sealed envelope and an opposing basal portion carrying a screw base. A ballast for igniting and operating the discharge device is enclosed within the shell between the screw base and the sealed envelope. The sealed envelope includes a reflective surface which directs light emitted by the discharge device. The reflective surface also provides effective heat management for preventing overheating of the ballast by the heat generated by the discharge device. The integrated lamp has photometrics and luminous efficacy which exceeds that of corresponding halogen and halogen IR reflector lamps while having an overall planform which fits within that of the corresponding lamp. In a favorable embodiment, the ballast drives the discharge device at a high frequency above about 19 kHz and below the lowest acoustic resonant frequency of the discharge device, facilitating a small physical size for the ballast while also avoiding acoustic resonance. In one embodiment, the reflector lamp fits within the ANSI outline for a PAR 38 lamp and has total lumens at least substantially equal to and a luminous efficacy which substantially exceeds that of a corresponding PAR 38 lamp having an incandescent filament.

摘要： A high pressure gas discharge lamp system includes a high pressure discharge lamp selected to have a lowest lamp resonant frequency above the audible, on a current basis above about 19 kHz and on a power basis of above about 38 kHz. The ballast circuit energizes the discharge device so as to have a fundamental frequency below the lowest lamp resonant frequency and above the audible, while keeping the magnitude of any harmonics above the lowest lamp resonant frequency sufficiently small so as to avoid acoustic resonance. By operating below the lowest lamp resonant frequency, greatly simplifying ballast construction and cost. According to one embodiment, the discharge vessel encloses a discharge space which is circular cylindrical and having a L:ID ratio of about 1:1 to maximize the lowest lamp resonant frequency. According to another embodiment, two or more discharge devices are operated concurrently by the ballast, each having a lowest lamp resonant frequency of above the audible, and the ballast operating frequency so as to increase light output while still avoiding acoustic resonance.

This is achieved by the discharge lamp being arranged such that a longitudinal axis of the discharge lamp coincides with the optical axis of the concave reflector by the end area of one of the hermetically sealed portions of the discharge lamp being located in an area of the concave reflector which is opposite the front cover. The spectral characteristic can be shifted while substantially maintaining its shape by changing the density of the fill. A sulfur or selenium containing discharge lamp which is operated at a pressure of at least about 1 atmosphere contains a low ionization potential substance in the fill. Characteristics which are improved are one or more of spatial color uniformity, extinguishing characteristics, and bulb starting reliability. Particular substances which are added to the fill are alkalai metal containing substances, III B metal containing substances, and alkaline earth metal containing substances. When light is reflected back into the bulb, the light which is re-emitted is stronger in the higher wavelengths.

The discharge vessel (3) of the light bulb according to the invention preferably comprises a plurality of U-shaped glass tubes (30, 31), which are located in the same plane at right angles to the reflector axis. As a result, on the one hand a short structural length is attained, which is only insignificantly greater than that of a commercially available general-purpose incandescent bulb, and on the other, the reflector lamp of the invention, when used in ceilings or chandeliers, has a horizontal lighting intensity that is increased by the factor of 4 over a conventional compact fluorescent light bulb.
