    • A pivoted-actuator safety switch of the type having a spring-biased lock lever within the sub-actuator that extends out to catch beneath the rim of the hole in the switch frame or housing to lock the pivoted-actuator in its "off" position, and a removable insertable actuator, covering the sub-actuator, has a projecting cam effective when inserted to retract the lock lever to allow normal operation, but removal thereof prevents unlocking of the sub-actuator and thus prevents operation from "off" to "on". A half-guard integral with the frame guards the actuator in "off" position to meet the "palm test", that is, it cannot be turned on accidentally by bumping or striking with the palm of the hand, while providing open access to the actuator in its "on" position so that it can be quickly turned off. This half-guard consists of upstanding plates integral with the frame on opposite sides of and extending higher than the actuator in "off" position. Lateral projections on the pivotal actuator enter slots in these plates to render the actuator non-removable in "on" position but allow removal in "off" position.

    • A coded switching device having a plurality of actuator dial knobs will, n set to a predetermined combination, provide electrical continuity between terminals on the device. Setting the dial knobs to another predetermined combination will enable the combination to be changed. The device consists of a number of stations, each comprising an actuator, a switch, and a detent mechanism, equal to the number of digits desired in the combination. Each switch is wired such that only one position will provide continuity through that switch. The switch rotors are connected to the actuators in a manner which will allow their angular relationship, and hence, the particular combination which will close all switches, to be changed by withdrawing the dial knobs in a direction outward from the device. A grooved rod extending transverse to the actuators gangs all of the actuators together for this combination change movement. Additionally, this rod restrains the switch rotors from angular rotation until the dial knobs are depressed and the actuators re-engaged with the switches.

    • An elongated body is provided with structure at one end for oscillatably supporting an ignition switch key therefrom with the axis of oscillation of the key extending transversely of the elongated body and extending normal to the panel-like key blank through the end thereof remote from the blade portion of the key. The other end of the body includes an endwise outwardly opening recess in which an anchor element is telescopingly seated and frictionally retained. The anchor element is frictionally retained within the recess against outward displacement therefrom and one end of an elongated flexible tension member is anchored to the anchor element. In addition, a guide member is provided for mounting in predetermined position relative to an associated ignition switch and is operable to slidably and guidingly engage an intermediate portion of the tension member. The other end of the tension member remote from the anchor element includes an anchor member for attachment to the driver of a vehicle incorporating the aforementioned ignition switch. The guide member is positioned in relation to the ignition switch whereby a pull on the end of the tension member to be anchored to the vehicle driver will effect a lateral pull on the corresponding end of the body to rotate the ignition key (and thus the oscillatable tumbler barrel of the ignition switch) to the off position in which off position the elongated body is disposed in a substantially straight line path extending between the ignition key and the guide member. A further pull on the end of the tension member to be attached to the vehicle driver results in the anchor element being pulled from seated engagement within the aforementioned recess to thereby disconnect the tension member from the elongated body and key so as to prevent damage either to the elongated body, the key or the associated tumbler barrel as a result of a sharp pull on the tension member.

    • A key indicating switch includes a dielectric housing mounted on the casing of an ignition lock. Spaced electrical contacts are mounted in the housing and connected in a key reminder circuit. A spring contact has one end attached to the housing and the other end self-biased into engagement with the spaced contacts. The spring contact includes a first intermediate rib engaging the housing and a second rib engaged by an actuating lever pivotally mounted to the housing. A spring biased plunger in the core normally causes the actuating lever to pivot the spring contact about its first rib to move the contact out of engagement with the spaced contacts. When a key is inserted into the key slot, the plunger releases the lever and the spring contact is selfbiased into engagement with the spaced contacts. Thus, the switch is self-biased to the closed position at all times.

    • An electric safety switch apparatus of a type including an electric switch means and controllably movable switch-operating means for actuating the electric switch means between open and closed relationship with respect to an electric circuit adapted to be connected to the electric switch means and further including inactivating means effectively cooperable with respect to the switch-operating means with respect to the electric switch means for effectively preventing the actuation thereof by said switch-operating means when in any position other than a predetermined, switch-engaging, inactivating-means bypassing relationship thereof. The switch-operating means has an input portion, an output portion, and an intervening coupling portion, with said input portion including means adapted to be effectively manually moved to an extent such as to actuate said electric switch means when said switch-operating means is in said predetermined switch-engaging, inactivating-means-bypassing relationship. The apparatus includes means for properly positioning said switch-operating means for manually caused movement into said bypassing relationship when operated by authorized personnel in accordance with a preselected, positiondetermining manner by said means.
