    • A child resistant tap has a valve body (12) with an inlet (22) and an outlet (24) and a valve seat (26) therebetween. An axially slidable valve element (28) engages the valve seat (26) to open and close the valve. A handle or lever (1) is pivotally connected to the valve element (28) outside the valve body. The handle has a fulcrum portion (1-2), so that pivotal movement of the handle (1) operates the valve element (28). A safety lever (6) is pivotally attached to the handle (1) and has a locking arm (6-2) which engages the valve body (12) to prevent the handle from pivoting to open the valve. The safety lever (6) also has an actuator arm (6-1) located adjacent to a transverse lever arm (1—1) of the handle, so that squeezing together of the actuator arm (6-1) and the handle lever arm (1—1) causes the safety lever (6) to pivot out of engagement with the valve body (12) allowing the valve to be opened.

    • A controller comprises a valve body having a valve element and a valve seat defining a fluid cannel openable and closable with a reciprocating upward and downward movement of a valve stem, a casing fixed to an upper portion of the valve body, an operating rod provided in an upper inside portion of the casing upwardly and downwardly movably, a drive device for moving the rod upward and downward, and a transmission device provided in a lower inside portion of the casing for transmitting a force acting on the rod to the valve stem. The transmission device comprises a first roller contact member in the form of a downwardly flaring frustoconical recessed portion open downward and formed on an underside of a large-diameter portion of the rod concentrically therewith, a second roller contact member provided at an upper end of the valve stem, a pair of roller support members arranged between the two contact members symmetrically with respect to the axis of the operating rod, a pair of rollable rollers each rotatably supported by the support member at an upper portion thereof and bearing on a tapered face of the first roller contact member, and a pair of push rollers each rotatably supported by the support member at a lower portion thereof and bearing on an upwardly facing roller support surface of the second roller contact member. Each of the support members is supported by the casing so as to be pivotally movable about an axis outwardly spaced from the axis of the rod by a greater distance than the axis of the corresponding push roller.

    • A bonnet is mounted on an insert support and connected to a valve body to retain a diaphragm in fluid sealing relationship between the body and insert support. The insert support is rotatable relative to the housing of a fluid actuator while being retained in a fixed axial position relative to the housing. A plunger is extended through the insert support to abut against a button that abuts against one side of the diaphragm, the opposite side of which abuts against a valve seat subassembly that is resiliently urged to a valve open condition. The housing mounts a spindle which in turn has an eccentric lobe keyed thereto for moving the plunger toward the diaphragm so that the button flexes the diaphragm to move the seat subassembly to its valve closed position. Piston operated rack mechanism controls the rotation of the lobe for moving the plunger toward the diaphragm. Spring mechanism moves the piston in one direction while fluid under pressure applied to the actuator moves the piston in the opposite direction. The spindle and lobe may be selectively positioned in the housing so that the actuator is for a normally open valve or a normally closed valve. One of the embodiments is of a construction for fitting under a cap of a gas cylinder and replacing a manually operated control valve whereby the flow from cylinder can be controlled from a remote location.
