    • An air-cleaning apparatus and air-cleaning method whereby air is cleaned with an air flow containing ions and ozone generated by corona discharge. The apparatus has a wind tunnel part including a trumpet-shaped member (3) having an opening at the bottom thereof and a cylindrical member (4) connected to the opening at the bottom of the trumpet-shaped member (3). The wind tunnel part has a titanium dioxide metal evaporated onto the surface thereof. A needle electrode (1) is placed in front of the trumpet-shaped member (3) of the wind tunnel part near an axis of the trumpet-shaped member (3). An annular electrode is formed on the inner surface of the wind tunnel part. A high-voltage generating unit applies a high voltage between the needle electrode (1) and the annular electrode (2). A housing (10) accommodates the needle electrode (1), the annular electrode (2) and the wind tunnel part and has an air inlet (11) on a side thereof closer to the needle electrode. The housing (10) further has an air outlet (12) on a side thereof closer to the cylindrical member of the wind tunnel part. Corona discharge is induced by applying a high voltage between the needle and annular electrodes, thereby generating an air flow containing ions and ozone and thus cleaning air.

    • A sequential delivery assembly (30) sequentially releases three different treatment materials into a fluid flow path (24) to form a treatment fluid with a composition which varies throughout a cleaning and microbial decontamination cycle. A chamber (12) receives items to be cleaned and decontaminated. A pump (22) pumps the treatment fluid from the sequential delivery assembly along a fluid flow line (24) to nozzles (16, 18) disposed within the chamber. The nozzles spray the treatment fluid over the items to be cleaned and decontaminated. The delivery assembly includes a well (34) for receiving a three compartment cup (44). The cup contains a first compartment (70) which includes a cleaning material (76), such as a detergent. A second compartment (72) contains pre-treatment materials (78), such as buffers and corrosion inhibitors, which prepare the system for receiving a microbial decontaminant (80), such as a concentrated solution of peracetic acid, contained in the third compartment (74). The sequential delivery assembly includes a cup cutter assembly which sequentially cuts base portions (90, 94, 118) of the three compartments to release the treatment materials into the fluid flow line. The system allows items to be cleaned and then microbially decontaminated in a single process, avoiding the need to handle potentially hazardous instruments between cleaning and decontamination steps and ensures thorough cleaning and decontamination of the instruments with measured doses of the treatment materials.

    • A process for sterilization of a liquid in a continuous system comprising a series of steps. First the liquid is continuously pumped into a pressurized system. Second, the pressure on the liquid is increased in a first pressurization stage. Next, the liquid is increased in pressure in a second pressurization stage. Fourth, the liquid is held at an elevated pressure for a predetermined period of time to kill off microorganisms within the liquid. The liquid is then rapidly depressurized to fracture microorganisms with the liquid. The apparatus for producing this process includes a continuous liquid treatment system with a pump, a first stage intensifier, a surge drum, a second stage intensifier, a pressure receiver and a pressure reducer. A particulate treatment system may also be included which comprises a pressure receiver, an intensifier, and a recoverer for blending a particulate component with the liquid component.
