    • An egg-holding tray for incubation intended to accommodate eggs has rectangular shape with rounded corners bordered by parallel walls. A lower part of these walls configures a protruding rectangular border. The internal area of the tray comprises a set of laterally juxtaposed aureoles with the same structure that fill the entire area of the tray. Each individual aureole includes a lower concentric ring beneath an upper ring. The lower ring has a circular shape configured to have four equidistant orthogonal supports located on the internal face which each support has a vertical triangular shape with a rounded upper end and a concave surface that correlates to the inside circumference of the lower ring. The tray accommodates eggs under the force exerted by the weight of each of the eggs prevent the egg from moving around in the aureole.

    • A method of introducing a beneficial material into the allantois of an avian egg through the shell thereof comprises the steps of orienting the egg to maximize a target area of the allantoic sac and directing the injection device through the shell and into the target area. The egg may be oriented with a major axis at an angle from about 10 to 45 degrees from vertical thereby causing the allantois to pool and the allantoic sac to expand immediately below the air sac on the downward side of the egg with injection occurring vertically downward through the air sac or from an angle below the air sac. Alternatively, the egg may be vertically inverted with the large end of the egg in the bottom position thereby causing the allantois to pool immediately above the air sac with injection occurring upwardly through the air sac or laterally between the air sac and the amnion. The beneficial material may be an anti-bacteria, anti-viral, anti-microbial, vaccine, growth hormone or the like.

    • An egg tray is provided which holds the eggs at an angle of approximately 35.degree. relative to the horizontal floor of the tray with the large or air-cell end of the egg being elevated. Air vents in the tray sides permit fresh air to flow directly over the eggs during incubation. A hatchery facility includes racks for holding a plurality of such trays loaded with eggs. The loaded racks and are rolled into an incubation and hatching chamber through a first set of doors which connect the chamber to a first hallway in which fresh air is circulated. After incubation and hatching, the racks and an air control unit in each chamber are removed through a second set of doors into a second hallway in which air from the chambers is vented during incubation and hatching. The air pressure in the first hallway is greater than that in the second hallway thereby minimizing the risk of contamination.

    • A single piece, nestable combination setter/hatcher tray for poultry eggs wherein an upper egg support portion is integrally molded to one side of a base. The upper egg support portion defines a plurality of egg receptacles, each for supporting individual eggs ina substantially vertical orientation. The upper egg support portion also includes apertures to promote air flow around the supported eggs. A hatch portion is integrally molded to the base, opposite the upper egg support portion to define a hatch section which is sized to promote a spaced nesting relationship with the upper egg support portion of another tray such that a maximum number of eggs can be incubated ina minumum amount of incubator space. Once incubated, the eggs are transferred to the hatch section of the next adjacent tray with minimal effort and injury by inverting the nested trays. The eggs, once inverted, continue to be positioned in an essentially verical orientation. After inversion, the trays are unnested to allow each egg to roll into a fully supported horizontal orientation within the hatch section. The trays may then be individually placed in a hatch chamber for hatching. Alternatively, the trays may be interconnected with lost motion clips and suspended in a hatch chamber thereby eliminating the need for hatch chamber shelving.

The cradles in two adjacent columns are hinged to a common vertical riser (21), with the various risers being pivotally connected at their ends to a series of tiltable crossbars (29) which are pivotally connected to one another in series so as to form an assembly which is articulated at each link point of the crossbars to risers, and at each link point of the risers to cradles, with adjacent risers being capable of being displaced in alternation in opposite directions while remaining parallel to one another so as to fold up and spread out the articulated assembly, thereby tilting the cradles, with the cradles tilting in opposite directions in adjacent columns. As a result, the cradles can be tilted alternately in opposite directions without splitting up the columns which would establish empty passages between adjacent columns and interfere with proper ventilation of the mass of eggs.
