摘要： A reinforcing panel and process for making the same for use in reinforcing wood structural members including laminated beams, wood I-beams, and trusses. The reinforcing panel is comprised of a plurality of synthetic fibers that are arranged parallel to one another and aligned with the longitudinal direction of the panel, and accordingly the wood structure. The panel has substantially no transverse fibers. The fibers are maintained in position by a resin encasement that completely encloses the fibers with the exception of some fibers that are closest to the surface. The surface of the reinforcing panel is treated so that those fibers closest to the surface of the panel are caused to "hair up" so that the reinforcing panel may be used with non-epoxy adhesives which are commonly used in the laminated beam industry, such as resorcinol. The reinforcing panel of the present invention is fabricated by an improved protrusion process which uses no mandrels, or woven mats and which provides for a selectable back pressure so that the fibers of the reinforcement panel are maintained in a state of tension during the resin cure, thereby: maintaining the parallel arrangement of the fibers, maintaining the longitudinal alignment of the fibers, and setting the initial strain of the fibers to decrease the initial deflection of a wood structure that is reinforced with the reinforcing panel of the present invention.

摘要： Low density fibrous mats formed from fibres and thermosetting and thermoplastic binders, transformed by moulding at elevated temperatures are used for the production of mouldings. Such fibrous mats are produced in that a mixture of fibres and binders is spread out to form a fleece and the latter is compressed or compacted to a mat at high temperature. For the planned influencing of the characteristics of the moulding, while simultaneously reducing the binder requirement and the density, it is proposed that the fibrous mat or blanks thereof is passed through a pair of rollers with polished surfaces and by means of at least one roller binder is applied from the aqueous phase to the side of the fibrous mat facing the same under pressure action and that the fibrous mat is passed through the roller pair at a speed lower than the circumferential speed thereof and following onto the roller pair is passed through a drying zone.

摘要： Fibre-reinforced structures comprising a thermoplastics polymer and containing at least 30% by volume of reinforcing filaments extending longitudinally of the structure which have been produced in a continuous process and which have exceptionally high stiffness. The exceptionally high stiffness resluts from thorough wetting of the reinforcing filaments by molten polymer in the continuous process. The thorough wetting gives rise to a product which can be further processed even in vigorous mixing processes such as injection moulding with surprisingly high retention of the fibre length in the fabricated article. The continuous processes for producing the reinforced structures employ thermoplastics polymers having lower melt viscosities than conventionally considered suitable for achieving satisfactory physical properties.
