    • A small, light and low-cost on-vehicle radar which reduces noise caused by a road surface, own car and radar itself, prevents road clutter and improves detection performance is provided. The on-vehicle radar includes an antenna having one or a plurality of radiation elements which radiate linearly polarized waves, a slit plate provided with a plurality of slits on a metal plate disposed in front of this antenna surface and a foamed material provided between the antenna and slit plate. Side lobes whose principal component is a cross polarized wave from a feeder line of the antenna can be reduced and road clutter can be prevented. Resonance of slits whose characteristic frequency becomes equal to or smaller than the frequency of vehicle can be reduced and noise can be suppressed. Therefore, it is possible to obtain excellent detection performance as the radar apparatus.

    • A compact lightweight antenna for receiving microwave direct line of sight wireless data signals used in services such as Local Multipoint Distribution Services (LMDS). The antenna provides for precise control over isolation of polarized signals. The antenna consists of an external parabolically shaped dome formed of a suitably resilient material such as thermoplastic. A polarizing conductive grating is formed on the interior surface of the dome and serves as a transreflector for initially passing received radiation having a vertical polarization. A twist reflector disposed at a point along an axis defined by the conductive grating reflects the received radiation, back in the direction of the transreflector with a different polarization. The now differently polarized energy is reflected by the parabolically shaped conductive grating at a feed point located in the center of the twist plate. The transreflecting element may be manufactured by providing a substrate that has been printed and etched and/or a film nonconductive substrate which has been silk screened with a conductive ink. In each of these cases in a preferred embodiment, the substrate or carrier film becomes an integral part of the mold in the resulting article.

    • A "shutter" type structure for transmitting electromagnetic energy within a selected frequency range and preventing the transmission of such energy outside such range during a first open shutter mode of operation and for preventing the transmission of any electromagnetic energy during a second closed shutter mode of operation. The structure includes an insulative member having an array of symmetrical conductive elements on at least one surface, such elements being interconnected by diode elements in both vertical and horizontal directions. The diodes are placed in their conductive states during the first mode of operation and in their non-conductive states during the second mode of operation.
