    • A sliding mount for removable insertion of a module into a body of an instrument having longitudinal strings, the body defining a transverse cavity extending from a lateral edge. The sliding mount includes a blade for fixation to the module by a generally planar face generally parallel to and spaced apart from a plane the strings define. The blade has first and second edges oriented perpendicularly to the lateral edge when inserted into the body. A sheath for fixation to the body by a generally planar face is configured to receive the blade. The sheath has a first and second lip configured to define opposing channels the edges that slidingly engage upon insertion of the blade into the sheath.

    • This invention relates generally to electromagnetic transducers, and more specifically, to devices that convert the mechanical vibrations of a magnetically permeable object, such as a ferromagnetic instrument string, into an electrical signal using electromagnetism. In one embodiment, the invention includes a core, the core being magnetically susceptible, the core including opposing ends that are in close proximity to each other to define a gap, the gap configurable to receive a portion of at least one string, the at least one string being magnetically susceptible; a magnet, the magnet configurable to being disposed proximate to the at least one string and configurable to transfer magnetic flux to the at least one string, the magnetic flux from the at least one string being transferable to the core through the opposing ends; and a coil, the coil being disposed about the core, the coil being configurable to produce current in response to the magnetic flux from the core, wherein mechanical vibration of the at least one string produces a vibration of the magnetic flux in the core that induces current in the coil.

    • A reluctance pickup for a guitar including a pair of magnetic pole pieces disposed within wire coils. The coils are oppositely wound and wired in series. Each pole piece has an elongated magnetic pole end extending above its respective coil. The pole pieces are disposed so as to form a pickup face having two approximately parallel elongated pole ends. The elongated pole ends have opposite magnetic polarities and create a magnetic field therebetween. The pickup is mounted beneath a magnetically permeable string such that a projection of the string intersects the pole ends at a selected orientation angle between approximately 28 degrees and approximately 58 degrees, preferably, 43 degrees, so as to optimize selected performance parameters of the pickup, including: channel-to-channel separation, frequency response, and dynamic response.

    • The invention concerns a cell for detecting the mechanical vibrations of an object. It includes a first phototransmitter 22 for emitting a light beam on one side of the said object, and two photoreceivers 24, 25. Each photoreceiver 24, 25 has a detection surface arranged in such a way as to receive the light beam modulated by the shadow cast by the object. The phototransmitter 22 and the photoreceivers 24, 25 are distributed on an internal cross-section of a hollow tube forming the structure of the cell, the object being placed close to the centre of the said cross-section. The invention also concerns a vibration sensor comprising several cells according to one of the above claims, mechanically associated with each other to enable the simultaneous detection of the vibrations of several objects, and a command module for controlling the operation of each cell individually. Applications: sensors for stringed musical instruments, sensor for measuring the tension of a cable, etc.

    • A removable and portable single pickup unit for stringed instruments such as guitars, and the like. The unit can be mounted inside of a sound hole of an acoustic guitar without damaging the guitar. The unit can combine inputs from three different pickups(such as a magnetic sensor, vibratory transducer, and a microphone) into a single small housing. The unit can include a pre-amplifier and circuitry within the unit along with three rotatable rheostat type control knobs for each of the pickups, and an overall volume control knob that are easily reachable to the user's fingers while the fingers are on the strings. An output cable connects the unit to a single external amplifier or three individual amplifiers for each of the three different pickups.
